THE MARTYRS of PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Each year on September 2nd our Ballarat Diocese honours especially the 12 co-patrons within our Diocese, who gave their lives serving the people of New Guinea, during the Japanese invasion and occupation in 1942-1943.

They were priests, teachers, nurses, evangelists and other mission workers.
A total of 333 Christian workers from different denominations died.

One who is especially remembered is the Rev’d Henry Matthews who was born in Moyston, near Ararat, on March 26th 1876.

Rev’d Henry devoted his life to Christian missionary service across 33 years in both Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Family members still attend Church in the Parish of Ararat.

Greetings and good morning

📚📚 FREE STREET LIBRARY 📚📚

It’s heartening to see the beautiful colours of spring with the daffodils, blossom🌼 and all the signs of the new season; all part of the wonderment of God’s creation.

As many know we have a lovely Street Library in the carpark area of our Church.
From adults to children there is always a great variety of books to choose from.
Our Library is also part of St. Paul’s outreach to the wider community.

With thanks to Andrew Masterson and his team of volunteers they keep many of the small libraries stocked around our beautiful city.

Thanks to generous ‘literature lovers’ I was able to put lots of lovely free books into the street library at St Paul’s in Bakery Hill, the book nook at Barkly Square community centre, and onto the shelves at Grampians Health Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre. Happy browsing.

Let Us Pray for Nepal:
On Wednesday, 26 August, a devastating flash flood struck the Nepal–Tibet border after a large mass of ice and rock from a Himalayan glacier collapsed into a river, sending a powerful torrent of water, mud and debris through villages and communities. Homes, roads and bridges were swept away, and many people were caught in the disaster.
At least 359 people have died, and around 1,500 remain missing, including 39 Australians. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors in extremely difficult conditions.

Let us pray for those who have died, those who remain missing, their families and loved ones, and all those involved in the rescue and relief efforts. May God bring comfort to the grieving, strength to the rescuers, and hope to all who are waiting and praying.

ST. PAUL'S PATRONAL FESTIVAL and CONFIRMATION.

Greetings.

Today, a large congregation gathered at St. Paul's Church to commemorate our Patronal Festival, marked by the confirmation of nine parishioners.

The Right Reverend Garry Weatherill, Bishop of the Ballarat Diocese, officiated the ceremony and, together with Fr. Thomas Edayal, presented certificates and gifts to the confirmands.

Church Wardens Denise Lay and Bryan Crebbins served as sponsors for the confirmation.

The St. Paul's Singers delivered a poignant post-communion hymn, performing Stuart Townsend's arrangement of 'The Lord Is My Shepherd,' with accompaniment provided by Jack L. Stacey under the direction of choir leader Julie Stacey.

Following the service, a reception featuring tea and conversation preceded the day's celebrations, which continued with a luncheon at the Munster Arms Hotel dining area, located a short walk from the church.
