Don’t forget to register for this years Rosalie Rendu Forum.

This year’s Rosalie Rendu Forum looks at the impacts of domestic violence, and what it means for women and their experience of poverty. This year’s lockdown has created additional stresses for relationships, and financial stress not only increases the likelihood of intimate partner violence, but women with low incomes often have no means of escape.

At this year’s forum, a panel of diverse female leaders share their insights into the relationships between poverty and domestic violence and discuss what needs to be done to break these complex connections. We'll hear from panellists Annabelle Daniel OAM, CEO of Women's Community Shelters; Christine Robinson, Coordinator of Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women's Legal Centre; and Rosemary Kariuki, winner of the Local Hero 2021 Australian of the Year award. Lived experience advocate, Peita, will also share her own story and remarkable journey to recovery.

Join us to hear from inspiring women responding to one of today’s most pressing social issues on next Thursday October 21 from 6-7:30pm. Register today at https://bit.ly/2YJgK6I

Happy Feast Day of St Vincent de Paul 🙏🏼

It’s a significant day for Vincentians across the globe, the Feast Day of the Society’s spiritual patron, St Vincent de Paul. Saint Vincent’s missionary virtues were of simplicity, humility, gentleness, selflessness and zeal. But what do these mean to us today?

With a reading from our Executive Director of Mission & Spirituality, Leo Tucker reflects “Selflessness is not just simply being altruistic. It is simply that at times we must make sacrifices for the greater good.”

Right now we are all making sacrifices, not only for our local communities, but our global community too. While Saint Vincent was alive 400 years ago, his vision, values and virtues remain relevant in our modern world, as there will always be sacrifices to be made for the many, and those who need help in hard times.

What an amazing effort by the students and staff at St Leo’s College and thank you to Bishop Anthony for supporting this important initiative and the St Vincent de Paul Society. “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.” – Mother Teresa

Last week, The St Leo's Vinnies School Conference launched their “Leo’s Lockdown 2021” program. They called on the local school community to come together in solidarity and give up one night in a warm, comfortable bed to help raise funds for homelessness in their own back yard. The team are on the verge of reaching $22,000 in donations to provide support for those in our community who need it the most. I thank them for their wonderful initiative.

In this week of National Homelessness Awareness, we are compelled to realise that there is great disparity in the human family regarding wealth, accommodation and other aspects of life. Across our community, there are many people who are making a positive difference to the lives of those less fortunate and giving them a sense of hope for the future. Might you consider making a contribution to this worthy local cause? https://my.fundraise.vinniesnsw.org.au/vinnies-school-sleepouts/st-leo-s-wahroonga

Vinnies is taking pressure off families who are at breaking point by providing food hampers, emotional support, and help with essentials.

Will you help Australian families that need our support with a donation this Christmas?
