Ascot Community Uniting Church

Ascot Community Uniting Church "As followers of Jesus we step out in love, sharing hope"

All Age Worship, Sunday School, Bible Studies, Playgroup, EAL Classes.

Ascot Community Uniting Church was formed in 1997 from the four congregations of Clovelly Park, Edwardstown, Plympton Park and Ascot Park. The decision was made to worship on the Ascot Park site, and the renovated building opened in 2002. There is now a modern spacious worship space, with a hall, meeting rooms, commercial kitchen and ample car parking, and secure children's play area at the rear.

People in the congregation value a sense of belonging and community, looking out for each other and for others as they seek to show God's love. It is a place to be open to God and to each other as they grow together in God's grace. Regular activities include Playgroup, English Speaking Classes, Fellowship, social Table Tennis and Bible Studies. The Fishgate Congregation share the use of the property, and meet on Sundays at 5pm.

Today, we remember the Last Supper. Knowing he will soon be captured and crucified, Jesus shares a final meal with his friends and washes their feet.

With this example, Jesus urges us to show similar humility in service to others. He challenges our understanding of hierarchical leadership and introduces a radical new model characterised by love.

โ€œSo if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anotherโ€™s feet.โ€ (John 13:14)

โ€œReturn to me with all your heart.โ€ (Joel 2:12)

As the Lenten season begins, President Rev Charissa Suli invites us to become a praying, mercy-filled people โ€“ anchored in Christ amid uncertainty and division.

This season asks more than surface sacrifice; it is a call for deeper engagement with Christ.

This morning, we wake with heavy hearts following the tragic events at Bondi.

As the Uniting Church in Australia, we hold in prayer all who have been affected โ€” those who have lost loved ones, those who are injured and recovering, the first responders and health workers, and the wider community carrying shock and grief.

We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and with all who were gathered in peace. Violence has no place in our shared life, and fear must not have the final word.

In the light of Christ, we commit ourselves again to compassion, care for one another, and the work of peace. May Godโ€™s love hold all who are hurting today.

God of mercy and peace,
we come to you with hearts that are tired and grieving.
We entrust to you the lives lost,
the wounded,
and all who are holding sorrow this day.

Surround the Jewish community and all who have been affected
with comfort, safety, and hope.
Strengthen those who serve and protect,
and grant wisdom and gentleness to all who lead and respond.

In a world shaken by violence,
teach us again the way of Christ โ€”
the way of love, courage, and peace.
Hold us, heal us, and lead us forward.

Amen.

Today is the International Day of People with Disability โ€“ a day to honor the 5.5 million Australians living with disability.

This yearโ€™s theme: Fostering Disability Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress.

All people are created in the image of God, including those with disabilities. Their faith, gifts, hopes, and dreams deserve to be valued and celebrated. Letโ€™s work together to create a more inclusive, respectful world where everyone can thrive. ๐Ÿ’™

Let us come together today, not just to celebrate, but to commit to a future where the dignity, potential, and rights of all people, including those with disabilities, are upheld with equal respect and opportunity.
