There's an SMH article today on the long term consequences of same s*x marriage (http://bit.ly/2dXTw1x).

The Sydney Anglican draft document at the centre of the controversy is here: http://bit.ly/2etAuDa

- Dominic Steele

The Anglican Church has likened support for legalising same-s*x marriage to communism, and claimed its negative social "costs" will match those seen after the introduction of the 1975 no-fault divorce laws that it says created "widespread adultery and divorce."

Also worth reading is this week's scathing Christianity Today editorial: http://bit.ly/2dO8jQt

- Dominic Steele

It includes the quote:

"The revelations of the past week of his vile and crude boasting about s*xual conquest—indeed, s*xual assault—might have been shocking, but they should have surprised no one.

"Indeed, there is hardly any public person in America today who has more exemplified the “earthly nature” (“flesh” in the King James and the literal Greek) that Paul urges the Colossians to shed: “s*xual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry” (3:5). This is an incredibly apt summary of Trump’s life to date. Idolatry, greed, and s*xual immorality are intertwined in individual lives and whole societies. Sexuality is designed to be properly ordered within marriage, a relationship marked by covenant faithfulness and profound self-giving and sacrifice. To indulge in s*xual immorality is to make oneself and one’s desires an idol. That Trump has been, his whole adult life, an idolater of this sort, and a singularly unrepentant one, should have been clear to everyone.

"And therefore it is completely consistent that Trump is an idolater in many other ways. He has given no evidence of humility or dependence on others, let alone on God his Maker and Judge. He wantonly celebrates strongmen and takes every opportunity to humiliate and demean the vulnerable. He shows no curiosity or capacity to learn. He is, in short, the very embodiment of what the Bible calls a fool."

On October 11, 2016 R. Albert Mohler Jr. joined Don Lemon and Charmaine Yoest to discuss evangelicals and the 2016 presidential election.

In 2009 we met up with David Bennett, just after he started to trust Christ. David had been a leading light in the undergraduate gay movement.

He joined up with our Christians in the Media group, and Ministry Trainee Josh Maule and David read the Bible for a couple of years each week. Including via Skype for a year while he was studying in Paris.

He's been working in Oxford and is about to start studying there. A couple of weeks ago he was one of four young people to address the Church of England Synod. His call to the church was for them to trust God, not follow the ways of the world.

David is back in Sydney for a few weeks and it was terrific to catch up for lunch with David on Tuesday and for him to share at the Village Church Annandale staff meeting that afternoon.

Here David tells his story to another Christian in the Media Bryce McLellan.
