CARNAL OR SPIRITUAL?
(Discover the Difference and Grow in God)

TO THE BIBLE - 1 Corinthians 3:1
“And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.”

LET’S TALK
Grafting is an agricultural technique where a branch (or scion) from one tree is joined to the rootstock of another.

That branch then draws nutrients from the new root system to which it is attached and begins producing fruit with better qualities as a result. However, if the grafting isn’t complete, the branch might still try to produce its original less desirable fruit or fail to thrive entirely. The key is that the connection to the new root system must be fully established.

The Bible reveals two categories of Christians: the spiritual and the carnal. As the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?” (1 Corinthians 3:3). In other words, they weren’t spiritually mature. Their lives weren’t governed by the Word of God. Meanwhile, the spiritual Christian is the one whose life is regulated by the Word; he’s not just a hearer but a doer of the Word. He holds God’s Word as the final authority in his life.

These two classes of Christians exist in the Church today: the carnal Christian and the spiritual Christian. The carnal Christians are easy to spot: they gossip, fight, or act like everyone else online, even though they’re supposed to be following Jesus. As a newborn babe in Christ, you may find yourself still speaking the language of the people of the world, since you’re still growing in the knowledge of God’s Word; however, to remain at that babyhood stage is unacceptable. Some folks in the Church still talk worldly, months and even years after coming to Christ; they’re the ones Paul refers to as “carnal.”

He further highlighted the characteristic of the carnal Christians: Carnal Christians walk in jealousy and live like unbelievers because they lack understanding of spiritual things. But in contrast, the spiritual Christian has matured in God’s Word. They live it out in school, at home, and even on social media; they speak the Word, make choices based on it, and stand out for the right reasons. That should be you.

Speak
As I study and meditate on the Word of God, I’m growing in Christ unto maturity. The Word of God is building me up, causing my faith to grow and prevail, working in me and producing what it talks about! I’ve left behind all carnality and childishness; I’m functioning at the level of a spiritual man in Christ. Glory to God!

TOPIC: THE SPIRIT HAS BEEN POURED OUT

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh… (Joel 2:28).

What a remarkable declaration from God through the prophet Joel! He said, “I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh.” This was God unveiling His eternal plan for humanity, a time when His Spirit would no longer be only on a select few, but would be made available to all humanity.

And blessed be God, that prophecy has been fulfilled. On the day of Pentecost, the Bible says, “...there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind… And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost…” (Acts 2:2-4). This changed everything. The Spirit has been poured out. And today, the Gospel can be preached in every nation and to every person with the assurance that men and women can receive and believe the truth.

No one can truly know or believe in Jesus Christ without the ministry of the Holy Spirit. It’s the Holy Spirit who brings conviction and unveils the righteousness and reality of Christ to the human heart (John 16:7-8). Remember, when the Lord Jesus asked His disciples, “...Whom say ye that I am?” (Matthew 16:15), Peter answered, “...Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). Then, the Master immediately responded, “...flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 16:17). Furthermore, in John 6:44, the Lord said, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him….” How does the Father draw men today?

It’s through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. He’s the One at work in the hearts of men everywhere, making them receptive to the Gospel and granting them the ability to believe. This is why you must never be discouraged when preaching the Gospel.

The Holy Spirit has already been poured out upon all flesh. He’s working in the hearts of men in every city, in every nation, and in every culture. Your responsibility is to proclaim the truth boldly and faithfully, knowing that the Spirit of God is convicting, convincing, drawing, and transforming lives through the message. Glory to God!

PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the outpouring of your Spirit upon all humanity. Thank you for the privilege of being a minister of the Gospel and a partaker of the ministry of the Spirit. As I proclaim the Gospel, hearts are opened, lives are transformed, and many are brought into the knowledge of Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen

…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.(Nehemiah 8:10)

God is kind and gracious! In the Bible, the Israelites once felt very sad because they hadn’t done what the Lord told them to do. But God didn’t want them to remain sad. He told them to rejoice and celebrate, because “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

This shows how powerful joy is. I’m talking about the joy that comes from the Holy Spirit inside you. This joy doesn’t come from what someone does for you; it comes from knowing Jesus.

The Bible says God gives us joy that is “full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8). This joy can be seen in your smile, your laughter, and the way you live.

No matter what’s happening around you, choose joy. Jesus said His joy is in you (John 15:11). So, smile, rejoice, and celebrate God’s joy every day!

JUMP WITHOUT LOOKING
(The Confident Leap on God’s Word)

TO THE BIBLE - Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

LET’S TALK
Liam: “I don’t know… I just feel like if I try to pray over this test, it won’t make a difference.”
Ava: “Why not? God’s Word says He’ll guide your steps. Faith isn’t guessing or hoping; it’s trusting His Word.”
Liam: “But what if it doesn’t work?
” Ava: “Then it was not faith, because faith ALWAYS WORKS.”

Faith isn’t a leap in the dark as some people think, but a leap on the Word of God. Understanding this simple truth will position you rightly to live triumphantly every day and help you judge whether you’re actually functioning in faith or not. Those who think faith is a mysterious leap in the dark are always apprehensive and reluctant to take the step that’d have led them to victory. They’re always hesitating over stuff like exams, school projects, or standing up for what’s right: “What if I fail the test?” “What if I try to help my friend and it doesn’t work out?” “What if I speak the Word and nothing changes?” That shouldn’t be you.

Faith is the confident assurance that, based on God’s Word, things favourably expected will come to pass. Faith doesn’t ask “what if?” Rather, faith knows. In other words, faith knows that if hands are laid on the sick, they’ll recover, since that’s what the Word says! Faith knows that if there’s a need, then there’ll definitely be a corresponding supply based on Philippians 4:19: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Hallelujah!

If you see faith as a leap into the unknown, you’ll always have many reasons for not doing the things you ought to do. You’ll always find yourself considering, reconsidering and hesitating. Faith depends on the Word of God as the basis and assurance for action. Faith hears and jumps, but fear hears the same thing and considers other factors. Remember, in the eyes of natural men, the Word of God is “unreasonable”; it makes no sense. That’s because God’s Word isn’t meant for the head but for the human spirit. Learn to respond to God’s Word from your spirit, and your faith will always prevail.

Dear Lord, I refuse to reason out your Word and instructions in my mind; rather, I daily receive into my spirit, with faith and gladness, your engrafted Word, which is able to make a success out of me and put me over in life.
