On 17 May 16, we had a great honour of witnessing our local politicians and community leaders availing themselves to support the initiative of bringing awareness about domestic violence and misogynistic attitudes which affect families and the community. Her Honourable Fiona Richardson; Minister of Women and Prevention of Family Violence spoke proudly of how our state is taking the lead as a strategic model in changing attitudes in the pursuit to combat domestic violence which affects our community. Member of Parliament Ben Carroll was the moderator for the day. We were also very privileged to have the presence of our Mayor Coroner Andrea Surace, Rev Jean Beale and Father Joseph and members of the community. We are a blessed community to have leaders who are conscious of the issues which affect people and are in the joint endeavour to support and concoct ways to deal with them.

Our sincere thanks to the community and everyone who contributed in supporting our Fete on 7 May 16. We pride ourselves in serving God whichever way possible. We adopt an holistic approach to serving the community through the ministry entrusted to us. While the fundraiser is to raise funds to support some aspects of our mission and the wider church mission, the occasion also provided the opportunity for children to have fun and for the adults to fellowship by catching up and sharing stories.

Our Cancer Group had a wonderful opportunity on 19 April 16 to hear Barry Ranson share his experience and expertise about all kinds of cancers that affect people. His presentation brought awareness about cancers. The session raised a reasonable amount donated to a charity for treating cancer. While the medical experts continue to seek a panacea for treatment of cancer, groups like this one run by Bev and Sue from our church are there to provide support and pastoral care for those affected.
