Adelaide Buddhist Centre

Adelaide Buddhist Centre A community discovering and practicing meditation and the teachings of the Buddha. The term Triratna, is Sanskrit for “Three Jewels”.

Adelaide Triratna Buddhist Community is a place to discover and practice the core teachings of the Buddha. We are linked to an International Buddhist movement founded in 1967 as the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order, and renamed the Triratna Buddhist Community in 2010. These are the Buddha, Dharma & Sangha, the three precious “jewels” embodying the ideals, teachings, and values that inspire us. Adelaide Triratna offer courses in meditation and Buddhism.

Our Spring Retreat this October focuses on the power and possibilities of the Metta Bhavana (Loving-Kindness) practice.

Whether you’re curious, just starting out, or practiced in the Triratna Buddhist tradition, there’ll be something for you here: a chance to go deeper in meditation, inspiring Dharma talks and discussion, creative ritual, free time, some periods of silence, and good company.

We'll be exploring the Metta Bhavana meditation practice, not simply as a means of developing kindness and greater compassion, but also as a doorway into deeper awareness and a window into the true nature of reality.

Suitable for newcomers who are familiar with our 2 main practices: Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana. If you’re not familiar or need a refresher, please come along to a few drop-in classes prior to the retreat, Thursday nights, starting at 6.45pm till 8pm.

Starts 6pm Friday 17 October, ends mid-afternoon Sunday 19 October

Cost: $220 (waged) / $160 (concession or unwaged)

Includes accommodation in shared rooms and vegan meals

We hope you can join us on our Spring Retreat in the beautiful setting of Glenbarr, just outside Strathalbyn. Please book in via the link below:

Our Autumn retreat this year focuses on creating a space for meditation practice and supportive community.
We’ll have the opportunity to make the most of spacious conditions and beautiful surroundings to re-charge, develop positive emotion and take our meditation practice deeper.

To support us we’ll include some positive Dharma input from one of Triratna’s best-loved and experienced teachers, Vessantara. A short series of pre-recorded talks on aspects of ‘Going for Refuge’ explore the idea that the arising of insight is a "single, basic, crucial and unique spiritual experience" that has different aspects we can unfold (Sangharaksh*ta, 1981).
The talks link together not only through the theme, but also through a thread of stories and imagery related to the Pacific Ocean and ‘Wayfinding’.

We hope you can join us on our Autumn Retreat in the beautiful setting of Glenbarr, just outside Strathalbyn.

Please click on the link to book in:

Please note: This retreat is best suited to those with some experience of Triratna retreats or who are comfortable with periods of silence and Buddhist devotional ritual during the retreat program, and with sitting in unguided meditation for periods of up to 45 minutes four to five times a day. Please contact us if you are unsure if the retreat will be suitable for you.

Join us at the Adelaide Buddhist Centre for a day workshop with Bodhidasa.

Delve into the deeper meanings behind ritual activities, symbols, and implements.

Saturday March 8th 10am – 4pm.

Tickets via https://adelaidebuddhistcentre.com/retreats/buddhist-ritual-workshop

Often overlooked in Buddhist practice, ritual holds a transformative power waiting to be explored. Bodhidasa combines insights from psychology, cultural studies, and personal experience to illuminate the liberatory potential of Buddhist ritual.
