Ps Mike kicks off our new series this Sunday.
It is one of those words that has cropped up out of nowhere in the last ten years, to describe the technology that lies beneath the surface of social media and directs content, information and ideas towards us without our knowing.
But the Algorithm is an idea far beyond that. It is the recognition that there are always hidden patterns - called by the ancient church fathers and mothers, ‘the world, the flesh and the devil’ - that shape our thinking and our ideas. The newspapers we read, the people we vote for, the friends we choose, the countries we live in…all these things operate as algorithms to shape our mindsets.
We are not objective, uninfluenced beings. So we need to ask ourselves how we can make sure that God, not the algorithm, is the Lord of our lives.
