Archbishop Patrick O'Regan has issued a statement regarding the recent flooding in Nepal:

"The scale of this disaster is still unfolding, and the needs of those affected will be both immediate and long term."

"At this time, I ask the whole Archdiocesan community to hold the people of Nepal in prayer. We pray especially for those who have died, for those who are injured or missing, for families who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods, and for all who are working to bring relief, comfort and practical assistance. May the peace of Christ be close to all who are suffering, and may our prayers be a sign of our Communion with them in this time of grief and uncertainty."

Caritas Australia has launched an emergency appeal to support communities devastated by catastrophic flash flooding in northern Nepal, where entire settlements have been swept away following a sudden flood surge through the Bhote Koshi river.

A little over 14 months since the Adelaide Diocesan Synod first came into the public spotlight, Archbishop Patrick O’Regan last Thursday put pen to paper to ensure its findings and agreements, now become canon law.

The official signing of the final document – the culmination of many months of research, listening and discovery – took place at Archbishop’s House on West Terrace where a clearly delighted Archbishop O’Regan signed one Decree and five supporting Declarations.

The Decree is the culmination of the 90 Synod members talking to thousands of parishioners within the Archdiocese over the past year about their hopes for the future of the Church locally and how to work together more effectively and in harmony.

Last night members of the Diocesan Pastoral Council and the Bishop's Council of Priests joined the Archbishop to witness the signing of Decrees and Declarations which have arisen out of the 2026 Archdiocesan Synod.

Decrees signed by the Archbishop equate to diocesan law. A Synod Implementation Working Group will be formed in the coming weeks whose role it will be to assign action, responsibilities and timelines parishes, 'pastoral arenas' and diocesan agencies.
