How great are all the volunteers at Adelaide City Salvos!! They make all the activities at 277 Pirie Street possible. We celebrate them and give them our thanks. Our wonderful weekday morning Cafe team are an example. (An unusual photo of them sitting rather than on their feet serving).

On Sunday 17th May the Adelaide Congress Hall Band provided a program at the front gate of the old Adelaide Gaol which is now a museum. (There is also an historical photograph of the then Adelaide Citadel Band playing at the same spot in 1912.)
This was an open day for the public to visit and experience the history of the building. Over 850 visitors attended the celebration on the day.
The gaol was opened in 1841 and was originally estimated to cost £17,000 to build. However, the actual cost exceeded £30,000 and this bankrupted the fledgling colony of SA causing Governor Gawler to be recalled to Britain.
Many of the visitors to the open day clearly enjoyed the music we provided and showed their appreciation.
