In Matthew 28:16-20, the risen Jesus meets His disciples and gives them the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”

Christ sends his followers into the world with authority, purpose, and the promise of His abiding presence: “I am with you always,to the end of the age.”

The mission of the Church is grounded not in human strength, but in the power and companionship of the living Lord.

Today was the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended like flames of fire on the disciples and followers of Jesus.
Jesus describes the Holy Spirit as ‘another comforter’ and an ‘advocate with the Father’ for us.
We decorated the church and enjoyed the singing and music of our young people.

Today we celebrated Jesus’ ascension into heaven.

Ascension Day can seem, at first, like a story about departure. The disciples watch as Jesus is taken from their sight, hidden by a cloud and mystery, and they are left standing between grief and wonder, staring upward into heaven. Yes the Ascension is not really about Christ leaving the world behind. It is about Christ becoming present to the world in a new and limitless way.

The great invitation of Ascension Day: to open the eyes of our hearts to the presence of the ascended Christ who still fills all things and draws the whole creation toward the love of God.

Happy Mother’s Day to all in a caring role. This is the prayer used in our service at St Luke’s today.

God our Creator
You have made each one of us in every part
Bless all mothers and carers through and through
that they may delight to serve you to the full.
Bless the eyes of mothers and carers, that they may discern the beauty you give.
Bless the ears of mothers and carers, that they may hear you in the music of sounds.
Bless their sense of smell, that your fragrance may fill their being.
Bless the lips of mothers and carers, that they may speak your truth, and sing your joy.
Bless their hands, that they may play, write and touch as you guide them.
Bless their feet that they may be messengers of your peace.
Bless the imaginations of mothers and carers that they may be filled with wonder at your truth.
Bless their hearts that they may be filled with your love.
Through Jesus Christ who took our nature to make us whole.
Amen

What would your mother love for Mother’s Day? It’s not an expensive gift. She’d love you to take her to church. Think about this as your special gift to mum. ❤️

In the weeks following Easter, the Church lingers in the reality of the resurrection- not as a past event, but as a living, present force that continues to shape the world.
So… if Christ is risen, how are we then to live? The resurrection results for Jesus disciples, in a change of community and an invitation to participate in a hope that remains real even in a world still marked by struggle and loss.

We had a wonderful service of praise and thanksgiving as we celebrated Christ’s resurrection.
