We invite you to join us tomorrow morning for worship at St John's:

8:30am | St John's Ministry Centre (15 Marlborough St, Malvern)
10am | Concordia College Chapel (Cheltenham St, Highgate)

Our prayer points for this week:
- We give thanks for faithful laypeople who continue to lead congregations in ministry in the absence of a pastor.
- Give wisdom to all leaders of the world, so that they act with justice and mercy to their people.
- Bring peaceful resolution to all conflicts.
- Bless the work of Australian Lutheran World Service and LCA International Mission. Protect workers and strengthen them in service.
- For the members of the St John's CRISP team as they show Jesus' love through their support of Abdale, Madina, and their children.
- Help us respond to suffering and need with generosity and compassion.
- Bring healing and comfort to all struggling with ill health and those recovering from surgery.
- Comfort those mourning the death of a loved one. In their sadness may they know the assurance of the gospel and the sure hope of eternal life in Christ Jesus.
- Bless the nine young people and their parents as they begin First Communion instruction on Sunday.

Sunday 7th June | Matthew 9:9-26
Theme: Behold!

Last week I had surgery to remove a cataract in my right eye. A cataract is when the normally clear lens in the eye becomes cloudy. Often this happens so gradually that people don’t notice the deterioration until it’s really bad. They may not even know they have a vision problem until diagnosed by a professional! But, once the lens is replaced they are amazed at what they can see.

The text from Matthew’s Gospel this week acts as a kind of spiritual ophthalmologist for us, diagnosing, treating and repairing our vision impairments.

Thankfully, my cataract surgery went well, and while I wasn’t ‘amazed’ by what I could see afterwards, I can certainly see more clearly. As you come on Sunday for your appointment with the Great Physician, may it be so for you too.

We invite you to join us tomorrow morning for a special combined worship at the Concordia College Chapel at 10am for Holy Trinity Sunday.

10am | Concordia College Chapel, Cheltenham St, Highgate

This week we pray:
- For emergency services, for relief agencies and for all who risk their lives and give their lives in service of others. Protect medical personnel on the front line of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- May solutions be found to complex humanitarian aid crises in Yemen, Sudan, Haiti and Cuba. Bring an end to war in the Middle East, in Iran and Ukraine.
- Be with all teachers of the faith, with preachers and theologians, with evangelists and bishops, that they might be witness to Your work in the world.
- In this National Reconciliation Week, we pray for open and respectful dialogue between people of all cultural identities. May the church be a model of reconciliation and a witness to the power of forgiveness in an increasingly divided world.
- We give thanks for the safe arrival of Abdale and Madina and their children. Grant them your protection as they find their feet.
- For all who do not know or love You, for those who do not feel Your presence, and for the times this describes us.
- Be with those with ill health and those recovering from sickness or surgery.
- Thank you for those who take leadership roles in our congregation. We ask your blessing on our Annual General Meeting taking place on Sunday after worship.

Sunday 31st May | Psalm 8
Theme: When I consider Your heavens

Have you ever stood and looked at the sky (day or night) and considered how small and insignificant you are in comparison? This week, we join the Psalmist in considering exactly that notion, and maybe even join in with the “Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth” that bookends Psalm 8.
