Today we celebrate and thank God for the Fathers and father figures in our lives. We recognise those whose wish to be a father hasn't been fulfilled, and the fathers who have lost a child.

We remember those fathers who are no longer with us, and we praise God for the gifts and memories fathers give and have given us in life.

Meet Tim Foulkes! Tim is a General Ministry Pastoral candidate, and will be preaching for our worship services tomorrow.

Tim and his wife Monika have three children: Heidi (7), Anita (5), Kiyan (1) and they have been passionately involved in Youth and Ministry together for the last ten years. Tim is a General Ministry Pastoral candidate, hoping to be ordained as a Lutheran Pastor in 2028. Tim has a passion for school ministry, innovations in mission and discipleship, and loves reading, music and the outdoors.

Sunday 6th September | Romans 13:8-14

Theme: Love fulfills the law

Is love invigorating or exhausting? Maybe it just depends on where you are at that time and moment.

Love to those around us takes all kinds of forms. Our experience and expectations depend on our circumstances: a fancy date is very different to caring for a sick child. How does making room to let someone into busy traffic compare to sharing a timely cup of tea and conversation. Donating time or money to support a good cause is a different experience of love again. These all ask something different of us and in turn, affect us in various ways.

How should we view acts of love considering the teaching and life of Jesus and Paul? How is our experience of love more than merely "fulfilling requirements" and how does being in Christ make that possible?

Welcome to Worship!

We invite you to join us tomorrow morning at St John's for a special combined worship service at the Concordia College Chapel at 10am (Cheltenham St, Highgate)

This week we pray:

- Bless those in government, positions of authority, and those responsible for upholding justice, that they would serve wisely and justly.
- Thank you for the bishops of our church, and the gifts you have blessed them with; when they are weary, restore them; when they are empty of ideas, fill them; when they are overwhelmed, embrace them.
- For those men and women you continue to call into the office of the ministry of Word and Sacrament, and especially for Tim Foulkes as he continues his learning here at St John's.
- Fill those attending the Presence series starting this coming week with your Holy Spirit.
- Use opportunities to gather in fellowship at events such as the High Tea this Sunday to build and strengthen our community; be in the conversations that take place and the relationships that form this weekend.
- Be with those tragically impacted by the flood in Nepal, especially those who have lost loved ones. Comfort them in their mourning.
- Be with those in our community living with ill-health.
