On Sunday evening, Mahmood Mosque proudly presented the NAIDOC Week Award to Lisa Khan during its NAIDOC Week Dinner, which brought together hundreds of community members.

Lisa Khan, born 1987, is an artist whose creative journey is deeply rooted in the strength of her two cultures. Her mother is a proud Yankunytjatjara, Antikirinya, and Pitjantjatjara woman, and her father, an Ahmadiyya Muslim from Pakistan. Growing up in Coober Pedy and later living in Alice Springs, the APY Lands, Lisa's path has been one of movement, learning, and connection to Country. Today, she works from her private studio in Adelaide, carrying these experiences into every canvas she creates. Her practice bridges tradition and innovation, weaving cultural memory with contemporary expression. Guided by ancestral knowledge and the strength of living between two worlds, Lisa's art is both a celebration and an offering; honouring her Aboriginal and Muslim heritage while sharing stories of resilience, identity, and belonging. Lisa Khan had three works selected as finalists and exhibited: 2025 National Ramsay Prize, 2023 SALA Prize, 2023 Advertiser Prize. She has also sold paintings internationally, with connections in France, America, Germany and New Zealand.
