Beth Taylor adds another major festival to her career, debuting at the
Switzerland's Musikdorf Ernen, joining Aernen Barock for two concerts in the Festival's Baroque series.

This evening, in "Between Heaven and Hell", the Scottish mezzo-soprano performs Bach's sublime cantata Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust, a masterful musical evocation of heavenly serenity. Two days later, she returns for a program centered on Vivaldi's haunting "Stabat Mater" and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata "Widerstehe doch der Sünde".

This evening, Michael Spyres returns to the Salzburg Festival for "Tenorissimo", a recital with the acclaimed period ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro.

Michael Spyres presents a program celebrating the golden age of the 18th-century tenor, featuring rarely performed arias by Handel, Vivaldi, Galuppi, Latilla, Rameau, Porpora, Sarro, Sammartini, Hasse, and Mazzoni. Among the highlights is Mazzoni's "Tu m'involasti un regno" from "Antigono", an aria spanning an astonishing three octaves, which Michael Spyres revived in modern times in 2011.

Few artists are as ideally suited to this repertoire as Michael Spyres. His extraordinary range, stylistic versatility, and pioneering work in rediscovering forgotten repertoire have redefined what it means to be a modern baritenor.

Toi, toi, toi to Beth Taylor, who this evening makes her Gran Teatre del Liceu debut as Mulier Samaritana in Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 8, under the baton of Josep Pons. The performance also marks the conductor's final appearance as the Liceu's Music Director, bringing his fourteen-year tenure to a close.

Mahler has become one of the British mezzo-soprano's defining composers. Earlier this year, she appeared as Mulier Samaritana in two prestigious performances of the Eighth Symphony: first with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko at the Salzburg Easter Festival, and then with the Wiener Philharmoniker under Andris Nelsons at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Her interpretations of Mahler have drawn widespread praise for their richness of tone, emotional insight, and dramatic presence.

This evening, Kangmin Justin Kim sings Alessandro in Handel's "Tolomeo, re d’Egitto" with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre. Conducted by Music Director Peter Whelan, the semi-staged production is directed by James Darrah Black. A second performance follows tomorrow at Berkeley's First Congregational Church and on July 26 at the Caramoor Festival

Baroque opera has long been central to Kangmin Justin Kim's career. Combining fearless virtuosity with vivid theatrical instincts, he has become one of the most sought-after countertenors in Handel and his contemporaries, while continuing to explore an exceptionally broad repertoire.

Just days after her final performances in Mozart's "Requiem", Beth Taylor returns to the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence this evening for a recital with renowned pianist Julius Drake.
