✝️STOP THROWING HOLY WATER ANYWHERE, HERE’S THE RIGHT WAY TO DISPOSE OF IT😳🤔
__________________
There are times when holy water becomes spoilt, contaminated, or polluted, and when this happens, it should not be used for blessings anymore.
✝️This can happen when:
Dirt, insects, or dust fall inside the holy water
Someone washes their hands inside the holy water container
The water has been mixed with other liquids
It has stayed too long and smells bad
The container is very dirty and affects the water
When holy water is no longer clean, it must be disposed of respectfully, not poured anywhere like ordinary water.
Here is the proper way to dispose of it:
✝️1. Use the SACRARIUM (if your parish has one)
The sacrarium is the special sink in the sacristy that drains directly into the ground, not into the normal sewage.
Holy water should be poured down this sacrarium because it returns the blessed water respectfully to the earth.
✝️2. If there is NO sacrarium
Some parishes in Africa do not have a sacrarium. In that case:
Take the holy water outside
Find a quiet, clean, and respectful place at home or on parish ground and pour it. If ahome, you can dig a hole and pour it right there.
Pour the water directly on the soil, not on an ordinary drain, gutter, or dirty place
We do this because holy water has been blessed, and anything blessed should be handled with dignity.
✝️3. DO NOT pour contaminated holy water:
Into toilets
Into kitchen sinks
On the road or gutter
In rubbish dumps
These places are not respectful for blessed sacramentals.
✝️4. After disposing of the water
Wash the container properly
Dry it well
Refill it with fresh, clean water and have the priest bless it again
✝️Why all this care?
Holy water is a sacramental. It is blessed for prayer, protection, and grace. Even when it becomes dirty, we still treat it with respect because of its sacred purpose.
