He sued her for £1.9 million for not loving him back.
In 2016, K Kawshigan and Nora Tan Shu Mei met through the Rotary Club of Bugis Junction in Singapore. They became friends. For four years, they stayed close.
Then in September 2020, things changed.
Nora told him she only saw him as a friend. He had considered her his closest friend. That misalignment, as she put it, sent everything sideways.
Kawshigan did not take it quietly.
He started showing up at her house uninvited. In July 2022, he came to her home and refused to leave. Nora didn't feel safe anymore. She installed a digital door viewer, a siren alarm, and a smart video doorbell just to feel secure in her own house. She also started counseling.
Then he took her to court.
His first lawsuit claimed she had breached an agreement to improve their relationship. He wanted around £13,700. The magistrate threw it out on the spot. The court said it would not be "an accessory to a calculated attempt to compel engagement" from her. They called it an abuse of process.
So he sued her again.
This time in Singapore's High Court. For 3 million Singapore dollars. About £1.9 million. He claimed her rejection had caused him trauma and depression, ruined his stellar reputation, and cost him five business partnerships.
Nora countersued.
She is asking for around £900. The cost of the cameras and alarms she had to buy to protect herself from him, and the counseling sessions she said she needed because of his behavior.
