We are thrilled to see Bad Gastein featured across a full page of the travel section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Frankfurter Allgemeine — one of Germany’s most renowned newspapers.

At its heart is STEIN, the new book by photographer and artist Gerrit Engel Gerrit Engel, who has previously exhibited in Bad Gastein as part of sommer.frische.kunst. art:badgastein His photographs look beyond the familiar image of the town to what lies at its very foundation: rock, architecture and water.

Few elements have shaped Bad Gastein more profoundly. The stone on which the town was built, the waterfall carving its way through it, and the thermal waters that laid the foundation for centuries of spa culture, summer retreat and the extraordinary architecture that followed.

We are very proud to see Bad Gastein and STEIN given such wonderful space. Thank you, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, for this beautiful feature — and Freddy Langer for your words and perspective.

This Saturday, the Genussmeile returns for its second edition. From Straubingerplatz through the historic centre and up towards Bahnhofsplatz, Bad Gastein’s hotels and restaurants serve regional specialities, creative dishes and drinks, while live music accompanies the afternoon at every turn.
Rather than choosing a single table, the Genussmeile offers the opportunity to discover many of the town’s kitchens at once — moving from place to place, meeting the people behind them and experiencing Bad Gastein through its food.

At 1,825 metres, hidden in a quiet basin beneath the Graukogel, lies the Reedsee — one of the great natural jewels of the National Park Hohe Tauern.
Surrounded by stone-pine forests, the lake sustains a remarkably delicate ecosystem. Spring mosses grow far beneath its clear surface, Arctic char inhabit its waters and a small fen, home to grey sedge, lines its north-western shore.
Its beauty has long drawn visitors from Bad Gastein and beyond. In the late 19th century, painters Anton Romako and Johann Varrone captured the lake in their work; in 1889, Kaiserin Elisabeth, her daughter Erzherzogin Marie Valerie and Gräfin Kornis reached it on an eleven-hour mountain tour.
The ascent through the Kötschachtal is steep and demanding, making it best suited to experienced, sure-footed hikers. Yet the effort is amply rewarded with perfect stillness, the reflection of snow-dusted summits and a landscape that feels almost untouched.

This autumn, the historic Wiener Saal at the Grand Hotel de l’Europe becomes the setting for Kammermusik:Reihe — a series of intimate musical encounters inspired by the world of Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann.
Marking the 250th anniversary of the celebrated writer and composer, the series brings together music, literature and fairy-tale imagination. Across five Wednesday evenings, changing ensembles explore different periods and moods — from delicate guitar and cello to piano, strings, horns and the unexpected pairing of guitar and tuba.
Five evenings devoted to the pleasures of chamber music, set within one of Bad Gastein’s most atmospheric interiors.

Designed by Austrian architect Gerhard Garstenauer and opened in 1968, the iconic Felsentherme Bad Gastein remains one of the town’s defining architectural landmarks — a striking composition of concrete and raw Alpine rock.
In autumn, as the mountains turn from green to gold and cooler evenings begin to draw in, few things feel better than ending a day of hiking in Bad Gastein’s warm thermal waters. A few unhurried lengths in the pool, followed by the quiet heat of the sauna or steam bath, allow tired muscles to soften and the pace of the day to slowly recede.
From around 6 pm, the atmosphere becomes particularly serene. As many guests leave for dinner, there is more space, more calm and a sense of having the place almost to oneself. Evening admission is also available at a slightly reduced rate.
A beautifully simple way to let the day in Bad Gastein come to a close.

Wenn der Sommer auf der Alm zu Ende geht. 🐑

Monatelang verbringen die Schafe den Sommer auf den Weideflächen hoch oben im Nassfeld. Wenn der Herbst näher rückt, ist es Zeit für die Rückkehr: Beim traditionellen Nassfelder Schafabtrieb verlassen morgen rund 1.500 Schafe ihre Sommerweiden in Sportgastein und werden zurück ins Tal getrieben.

Was heute zu den besonderen Momenten des Gasteiner Bauernherbstes gehört, ist vor allem gelebte Tradition: Glocken, Musik und das unverwechselbare „Määäh“ begleiten die Herde auf ihrem Weg. Ab etwa 11 Uhr werden die Schafe bei der Genossenschaftshütte zur traditionellen „Schafischör“ erwartet. Dazu gibt es Musik und – solange der Vorrat reicht – Spezialitäten vom Lamm.

As autumn slowly settles over Bad Gastein, the first snow may soon dust the surrounding peaks. After a long summer spent grazing high in the mountains, it is time for the animals to leave their alpine pastures and return to the shelter of the valley for winter.
This Saturday, one of the region’s most remarkable agricultural traditions returns to Sportgastein: the traditional Nassfeld Schafabtrieb. Around 1,500 sheep will make their way down from their summer pastures, arriving at the Genossenschaftshütte from approximately 11 am.
The ringing of bells, the calls of the sheep and the sight of the immense flock moving through the landscape make the Schafabtrieb — or Almabtrieb — an unforgettable experience. Deeply rooted in alpine agriculture, it marks the changing of the seasons and the close of another summer on the mountain.
A celebration for the whole family, accompanied by traditional music and regional delicacies.

Few races carry quite the same mythology as the 1000 Miglia.
First held in 1927, the legendary Italian road race has become a celebration of automotive beauty, engineering and adventure — bringing together historic cars, passionate drivers, collectors and enthusiasts from around the world.
From 10 to 11 September, the spirit of the 1000 Miglia arrives in Bad Gastein as part of the 1000 Miglia Warm Up Austria. Against the dramatic backdrop of the Hohe Tauern, exceptional historic cars will be joined by a select group of modern supercars for two days dedicated to precision, performance and timeless style.
On Thursday, training begins in Sportgastein at 2.30 pm, followed by the Bad Gastein Trophy through the valley and the grand arrival at Straubingerplatz from 5.30 pm. On Friday morning, the first stage sets off from Bad Gastein towards Mittersill.
A rare opportunity to see automotive history in motion — and to experience the unmistakable atmosphere of what has often been called the most beautiful race in the world.
We couldn’t be prouder or more excited to host this event in our beloved town of Bad Gastein. What an honour. We hope to see as many spectators as possible lining the streets and sharing this extraordinary occasion with us.
