A great reed doesn’t begin in a workshop. It begins in the soil…
Our story started with an oboist from Mendoza looking for a reed worthy of the sound he had in his head. What he understood changed everything: the cane comes first. Ours grows at the base of the Andes, in the world’s only caneyard in a desert region, where the sun, the dry air and the meltwater shape a cane that exists nowhere else. Then it’s cut, measured and selected by hand, one by one.
Today Gonzalez Reeds are played around the world, but they’re still grown and made in the same place. Mendoza, Argentina.
