Join us on Ash Wednesday (18 February) at 8pm for a joint service of Holy Communion with the imposition of ashes. This will be a combined service in English, Tamil, and Urdu with Church of North India (CNI), Church of South India (CSI), Church of Pakistan (CoP) and St Martin’s Anglican Church (Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf). A simple meal of lentil soup and bread will be served afterwards in the Parish Hall

Midnight mass with 9 lessons and Carol on Christmas Eve is as 10pm at St Martins. Please give yourselves extra time to walk as the roads around the churches are closed by the police. We will have hot chocolate and plum cake after the service in the parish hall. There is no Christmas Day mass. We meet normally on Sundays at 11am.

The sharjah ecumenical clergy fellowship and the choirs from our churches hosted by Archbishop Mesrob and the Armenian Orthodox Church. Great job to all the choirs.

Our Joint Anglican Ash Wednesday Service (with CSI, CNI and Church of Pakistan) is at 8pm on 5 March 2025 in St Paul’s Sanctuary. We will be singing in English, Tamil and Urdu the following songs: Old Rugged Cross; Welcome Holy Spirit; Rock of Ages; O Sacred Head; 40 Days and 40 Nights; All to Jesus I Surrender; Just as I am; Purify My Heart (Refiner’s Fire); I Need Thee Every Hour; Glory be to Jesus; Lord, in Thy Mercy’s Day; and Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the general time of penitence and renewal for all Christians. The aim of Ash Wednesday worship is threefold: (1) to meditate on our mortality, sinfulness and need of a Savior; (2) to renew our commitment to repentance in the Lenten season and in all of our life; and (3) to remember with confidence and gratitude that Christ has conquered sin and death.

The imposition of ashes is often a central part of the worship service. In Scripture, ashes or dust symbolize frailty and death (Gen. 18:27), sadness or mourning (Esther 4:3), judgment (Lam. 3:16), and repentance (Jonah 3:6). Some traditions also have considered ashes a purifying or cleansing agent. All of these images are caught up in the church’s use of ashes as a symbol appropriate for Lent.

After the service we will share lentil soup and bread in the Parish Hall, in a time of fellowship with the Church of South India (CSI), Church of North India (CNI), and Church of Pakistan (CoP) members.
