There is something deeply personal about a table. It is a place where people sit close, share a meal, have conversations, and simply be with one another.
And when we look at the life of Jesus, we see Him at tables again and again.
He ate with His disciples. He welcomed sinners. He sat with people others avoided. He did not wait for them to become worthy before sharing a table with them. Jesus initiated fellowship. He invited people near.
That gives us such a beautiful picture of communion.
The Lord’s Table reminds us that there is a place for us in His presence—not because we earned it, but because Jesus made a way for us. Through His body broken and His blood poured out, we have been welcomed into relationship with Him.
And because this table is sacred, we don’t come casually. We come with hearts prepared.
We look up in worship.
We look back in faith at what Christ has done.
We look within and allow God to search our hearts.
We look around, remembering that we belong to His body.
And we look ahead with hope, knowing that Jesus is coming again.
Communion is more than bread and the cup. It is an invitation to intimacy. It is Jesus reminding us, once again:
“Come. Sit with Me. Remember Me. There is a place for you at My table.”
May we never become too familiar with that invitation. May we always come to His table with gratitude, reverence, repentance, and a heart that simply desires to be with Him.
