*TITLE: UNDERSTANDING THE ALTAR OF GOD*
*SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 12:7*
_âThe Lord appeared to Abram and said, âTo your offspring I will give this land.â So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.â_
There is a reason why Abraham was prosperous. It wasnât by accident or just because he was chosen. If you study his life closely, youâll see a pattern. Every time God spoke to him, every time he received a promise, every time he moved into a new place, the first thing Abraham did was build an altar. Prosperity in Abrahamâs life was connected to his relationship with God, and that relationship was maintained at the altar. If you are to prosper like Abraham, then you must also study his life and copy what he did.
So the question comes: Do you have an Altar?
An Altar is a spiritual place where spiritual activities take place. It is a designated place of meeting between man and God. It is not limited to physical stones. In our day, an altar can be your prayer corner, your time of worship, your sacrifice, your devotion. But the principle remains â there must be a place and a time where heaven and earth meet in your life. Every believer must have an Altar where they meet with God consistently, not just when there is a problem.
An Altar is a source of strength, backup and protection, it speaks for you.
Strength, because it is at the altar that you are renewed. It is where you lay down your burdens and receive fresh oil.
Backup, because the altar reminds God of covenant. When God sees your altar of prayer, worship and sacrifice, He remembers His word concerning you, just as He remembered Abraham.
Protection, because an altar marks territory. Abraham built altars everywhere he went, and that marked the land for God. The enemy could not just touch anything that had been dedicated at an altar.
Beyond all this, the altar speaks. Even when you are silent, the sacrifices, the prayers, and the worship youâve placed there continue to cry out on your behalf.
Treat the Altar with reverence and the fear of God.
The altar is holy ground. You donât approach it carelessly or only when it is convenient. Reverence means consistency. Reverence means sacrifice. Reverence means giving God your best time, not leftovers. When we treat the altar lightly, we lose the power that comes from it.
Abraham built an Altar so that the word of God would manifest in his life.
The word had come: âTo your offspring I will give this land.â But Abraham responded by building. He didnât just believe in his heart and do nothing. He built an altar as an act of faith, and as he did, the word began to manifest. Altars provoke manifestation. When you build your altar of prayer, of giving, of worship, of obedience, you are creating an environment where Godâs word over your life can come to pass.
