Good evening, Church! I trust you are able to set aside time for us to pray together as guided below.
As we journey in our Sunday services through the idea 'Your Kingdom Come', we would like to understand more and reflect on what it means to be citizens of that kingdom. The Sermon on the Mount teaches us exactly what that looks like and we will pray through some of the Beatitudes this evening based on that:
Matthew 5:1-2 NIV
¹ Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, ² and he began to teach them. He said:
* Jesus is the King and is in charge - let us begin by declaring our acknowledgement of Him being enthroned in our hearts. He is the One who teaches us what it means to live under His rule and reign - it is His standard that we must submit to and live by.
Matthew 5:3 NIV
³ “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
* Let us also acknowledge our need of God. For Jesus to be our King, we must admit that we need Him to be and so let's pray in submission to Him as Lord of our lives.
Matthew 5:4 NIV
⁴ Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
* Ask the Lord for forgiveness regarding any sin you are aware of. Ask Holy Spirit to bring us to a place of understanding of how our sin breaks God's heart, that we may be moved to deep sorrow for what we have done. May the Lord break our hearts with the things that break His.
Matthew 5:5 NIV
⁵ Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
* Pray that we would be Kingdom citizens that understand the power that has been entrusted into our care and that we would use it humbly. May we be wise in the use of our words, especially, and allow the Holy Spirit to help us keep this strength under control so it can be used to bring life instead of death.
Matthew 5:6 NIV
⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
* Give thanks to the Lord that, in Him, we are made right and can, therefore, enjoy the rights of being citizens of His Kingdom. Pray that we would be stirred towards strongly desiring and working for all things to be made right in Jesus, that all of creation would be restored and made new.
Let us finish off by giving honour, praise and glory to Jesus that His kingdom has already come and that we can enjoy the benefits of being under His rule and reign right now. Be encouraged to pray through the remaining Beatitudes as you feel led by the Holy Spirit.
Have a blessed evening! 🙏🏾
