I was listening to an old song "Dai ndiri shiri" and it became apparent to me that there was no way we could have invented an aeroplane with such an attitude of self pity. "Dai ndiri shiri ndaienda kunamai vangu.." is a disempowering song, it justifies the current undesirable circumstances; it magnifies our weaknesses. I call this the "inadequacy mentallity" It makes us focus on what we don't have (wings to fly) rather than what we have (mental ability and natural resources to invent an aeroplane). There is absolutely nothing we can do with what we don't have no matter how emotional we get. If only my parents were alive, if only people were more understanding, if only Tsvangirayi had won, if only I was born in a rich family, if only I had attended a better school are examples of some of the excuses we have for not pursuing our purposes with tenacity. And what can we do about these ? Can we raise our parents from the dead or reverse time and change our history?! What does it profit our lives to be wallowing in self pity? Are there no people who have what we are wishing for but are still struggling with their lives?Let us get rid of all the alibis and start thinking about what we can do with our lives. Dai ndiri shiri mentallity must cease forthwith. Who knows maybe the bird is also singing dai ndiri munhu. Run your own race, use what you have to the best of your ability and God will do the rest. You are blessed, you are unique. Uri munhu hausi shiri accept it and be happy ( haurarami uchitya rekeni zuva nezuva). You are complete as you are, you are adequate! Pursue your dream without fear!Be Blessed!
