Picture two birds, both caged since birth. One day, the door is opened. One bird steps beyond the threshold and discovers the freedom of the open sky. The other remains inside, reasoning that all its needs have always been met within the cage and that the uncertainty of the open sky is too great a risk.
The bird that remains is not without wings. It simply has not developed the mentality of flight.
Sometimes captivity is preferred—not because bo***ge is good, but because freedom demands something captivity never required: courage, responsibility, discipline, adaptation and vulnerability.
The cage provided familiarity.
The open sky requires faith.
The cage provided security.
The open sky requires courage.
The cage required confinement.
The open sky requires capacity.
And so, even when the door is opened, a creature can remain psychologically imprisoned by the limitations of the environment from which it has been released.
Freedom must first become a mentality before it becomes a lifestyle.
The tragedy is not that the bird lacks wings.
The tragedy is possessing wings but continuing to live as though the cage still exists. Staying in the cage paralyses and forfeits powerful potential with the wings – a potential unknown, untapped and inactivated.
When God opens the door to a new season, we must be willing to leave behind the thinking, behaviours, dependencies and securities that belonged to the former environment.
Do not carry the mentality of captivity into an environment of freedom.
The cage may have been your history, but it does not have to be your future.
The door is open.
The sky is before you.
You have wings.
FLY!
WINGS WERE NEVER MEANT FOR A CAGE.
Do not let the fear of freedom be your greatest limitation to your greatest experience in your life in Christ. Do not stay in “EGYPT” when there is a “PROMISED LAND” ahead of you.
