Dear Brothers and Sisters,
THE REAL WAR Has NOT Started at ALL
In our journey towards self-discovery and empowerment, it's crucial to acknowledge the rich heritage of African spirituality that has been overshadowed by the influence of foreign religions. For centuries, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism have dominated our spiritual landscape, often at the expense of our own indigenous beliefs and practices. With these religions we mire in shame disgrace racism poverty and political corruption that favoured the colonisers including new subtle ones like the pale former enslavers Arab Muslims, Russia, and China.
During colonialism and enslavement, these religions were wielded as tools of control and oppression, stripping away our cultural identity and disconnecting us from our ancestral wisdom. On the Cusps of so-called independence, they sneaked in and today they control our Nation. Africans fought tooth and nail for their independence, shedding blood, sweat, and tears in the struggle against colonial oppression. But where were Christians Muslims, Jews during this epic battle for freedom? Nowhere to be found. These so-called "champions" of righteousness were nowhere in sight when African countries were rising up against their oppressors.
Instead, it was the traditionalists, the guardians of African spirituality, who led the charge. Names like Kwame Nkrumah, Julius Nyerere, Ndabaningi Sithole, Joshua Nkomo, Dedan Khimati, Josiah Tongogara, Eduardo Mondlane, Richard Mlambo to name just a few, come to mind – not for their devotion to foreign faiths, but for their unwavering commitment to the liberation of their people. They were rooted in the traditions and values of their ancestors, drawing strength from the spirits of the land and the wisdom of their elders.
And what about prophets and prophetesses? Don't make me laugh. Before the colonialists came barging in with their Bibles and Qurans, Africans had their own spiritual leaders – wise men and women who communed with the gods and goddesses, guiding their communities with foresight and intuition. Where were the prophets of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism then? Nowhere to be seen, because they simply didn't exist in African spirituality.
But now, centuries later, what do we see? These religions have the audacity to parade themselves as the saviors of Africa, as if they had anything to do with our liberation. They build churches and mosques on our soil, claiming to bring salvation while conveniently forgetting their complicity in our oppression.
It's time to call out this hypocrisy for what it is. African spirituality has been sidelined, demonized, and erased by the very forces that sought to subjugate us. But we will not be fooled any longer. We will reclaim our ancestral traditions, our indigenous wisdom, and our spiritual sovereignty.
So, to Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, I say this: You may try to whitewash history, but we will never forget the truth. And to my fellow Africans, I say: Let us honor the memory of our freedom fighters, our ancestors, and our traditions. Let us reject the false prophets of foreign faiths and embrace the divinity within ourselves. For our liberation is not found in their holy books, but in the beating heart of Africa itself.
But today, we stand at a crossroads, ready to reclaim what is rightfully ours – our African spirituality.
It's time to break free from the chains of colonial indoctrination and rediscover the beauty and power of our own spiritual traditions. African spirituality is not just a relic of the past; it is a living, breathing force that can guide us towards healing, liberation, and unity.
Let us embrace the wisdom of our ancestors, reconnect with the rhythms of the earth, and honor the spirits that dwell within and around us. Together, we can rebuild our communities, restore our dignity, and forge a future rooted in the rich tapestry of African spirituality.
