GROWING SPIRITUALLY TO ADVANCE THE ADVENT MESSAGE - Pst Ezekiel Musangu
By Tambule Christopher
The church is called not only to grow in numbers but, more importantly, to grow spiritually. A spiritually mature church becomes a witnessing church. Before we can effectively take the Advent message outside our church, we must first develop a strong relationship with Christ through prayer, Bible study, worship and fellowship.
Pastor Musangu emphasizes that evangelism is the responsibility of every church member. The work of sharing the gospel should not be left only to pastors, elders or evangelists. Every believer has a testimony, a neighbour, a friend, a workmate or a family member who needs to hear about Jesus.
For the church to grow spiritually, there must also be love and unity among its members. Jesus said in John 13:35, โBy this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.โ People should see Christ in the way we treat one another. A church that prays together, studies the Word together, supports one another and serves the community will naturally become a powerful witness.
The Advent message is a message that must go beyond the four walls of the church. Revelation 14:6 reminds us that the everlasting gospel is to be proclaimed to every nation, tribe, tongue and people. Therefore, we must ask ourselves: Are we only inviting people to come to church, or are we also going out to meet people where they are? Our communities, schools, workplaces, homes and digital platforms are all mission fields.
The challenge before the church is clear: grow spiritually, unite in love, receive the power of the Holy Spirit and go out to witness. We should not simply be members who attend church every Sabbath.
As we prepare for Christโs soon return, let us take the Advent message beyond our churches and share the hope of salvation with those around us. Like Isaiah, may every member be able to say, โHere am I! Send me.โ โ Isaiah 6:8.
