The song connection + what "old time religion" really meant:
"Give me that old time religion" was an African American spiritual from the 1800s, sung by slaves and early church communities. "Old time" meant the faith of their grandparents' prayer, forgiveness, community, hope in God. In a world where everything else was taken from them - freedom, family, dignity - that faith was the one thing that stayed solid.
It was survival music. The song gave strength during slavery, poverty. Singing it together = community + courage when life was brutal."
Jeremiah 6:16"
Thus saith the lord, stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths ,where is the good way and walk therein and ye shall find rest foe your souls.
