π Sermon Title: Preparing Children for God's Purpose
π Main Texts: Romans 8:19, Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Ephesians 6:4
π Introduction
The world is waiting! π Romans 8:19 tells us that creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. But the question today is: As the world waits, what are we doing?
β
Our answer is simple: We prepare the children. π§πΎπ¦πΎ
If we desire a generation that will stand for God ππΎ, we cannot leave their formation to chance. We must be deliberate, intentional, and faithful in raising them.
π 1. Preparation Requires Intentional Training
π Proverbs 22:6
βTrain up a child in the way he should go...β is not accidental.
The Hebrew word chanak means:
1οΈβ£ To dedicate β Set apart for Godβs purpose from the beginning β¨
2οΈβ£ To discipline β Correct, guide, and shape with love β€οΈ
Training is not only telling children what to do. It is walking with them πΆπΎββοΈ, teaching them π, and modeling the life we want them to live.
π 2. The Trainer Must Carry Certain Characteristics
If we are to prepare children, we ourselves must be prepared ππΎ. A child cannot be led where the leader has not gone.
β€οΈ A. We Must Show Love β Proverbs 13:24
Discipline without love becomes punishment. Love without discipline becomes permissiveness. Children learn best when they know they are loved and safe π€
π B. We Must Be Able to Inspire β Ephesians 6:4
Do not provoke children to anger, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Children follow vision π, not just rules.
π C. We Must Teach and Encourage β Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Godβs Word must first be in our hearts β€οΈ, then taught daily β when we sit, walk, lie down, and rise up.
π‘ D. We Must Provide a Safe Haven and Secure Base β Psalm 103:13, Isaiah 66:13
Trust between child and caregiver is the soil where faith grows π±. When children feel safe, they become open to hearing about God.
π 3. What We Sow in Children Will Grow π±
π Key Principle: The Word of God is a seed.
πΎ What we instill in children will grow and propagate.
π What we show children will also grow and propagate because children learn by observation.
You cannot teach a child to pray ππΎ if they never see you pray. You cannot teach honesty if they see you lie. Our lives are the most powerful curriculum π
π 4. Look to Biblical Examples
π Daniel 2-3
Daniel and his friends were trained in the ways of God ππΎ. Even in a foreign land, their training remained firm. They refused to compromise because what was planted in them early could not be uprooted π³π₯
ππΎ May God help us raise children who will stand boldly for Him in this generation and beyond. Amen!
