In the Realm of the Glory

06/02/2022

Great things could be achieved if only fear wasn't a factor. One day pretend to be fearless and do those things you fear the most and you will be amazed by the results you will get. Fear palayses potential. Fear cripples the ability to do great things. When Joshua was faced with the challenge of leading the children of Israel after the death of Moses, God encouraged him to fear not. If Joshua had allowed fear to take a hold of him, there would be no nation of Israel today. The antidote for fear is courage. Courage is not the absence of fear but the ability to keep on going inspite of fear. Do the things you fear the most the and the death of fear will be certain.

Words in the realm of the spirit are not just sound but spirit. Every word you speak has an imprint on your spirit and the spiritual word around you. You are forming your word by the words you speak. The Lord Jesus Said with regards to words that, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” So if it the spirit and the spiritual that is made alive by every word you speak imagine how much progress you could make by learning to talk the right way and using yours right. Your words are a vehicle to navigating the realms of the spirit and you can transport yourself to the future by learning how to talk right.

Have a blessed weekend

HOW TO READ A BOOK

Reading a book is an interesting thing however not many people know this. The reason why most people don't read books is because they have found it to be boring while others think of it is a share waste of time. If you know what you are looking for from a particular book then reading it from cover to cover won't be a challenge to you.

HOW THEN DO YOU READ A BOOK?

1. Have a goal
What is the goal for you reading that book? Establishing a goal before picking a book to read will help you to stay on course with reading. People pick books to read and they never finish because they had not set a goal for reading that book or books. Having a goal in mind will help you to read a book effectively.

2. Follow the 10/90 rule
What is the meaning of the 10/90 rule? If you have heard of Pareto Law or the 80/20 law then you are familiar with what am about to talk about. The 10/90 rule simply says that 10% of the book contain 90% of the information you need. That means when reading the book you have to focus on the 10% which contain 90% of what you need. I have read books which I never finished. I am not saying that you should not finish the books you start reading. What I am saying is that 10% of the book has 90% of the information you need.

3.Look for the golden nuggets
What are golden nuggets? Golden nuggets are those powerful points that you cannot just read through speedily. You need to slow down and readily thoughtfully and carefully taking notes. Golden nuggets if you know how to locate then makes your reading interesting. I consider reading as an adventure where I get to discover new things as I read. Golden nuggets makes reading adventurous, you should look for them.

4. Go through the table of content
I would have put this point as number one. Most people don't consider taking a look at the table of content. Looking through the table of content as basic as this instruction my be will give you an insight into how the content of the book has been arranged. The table of content will also help you to decide which chapter to begin with. It is not always the case to begin with chapter one. You can begin with any chapter of your interest as long as you know what you are looking for.

5. Read the introduction and the conclusion.
These are the summaries of a book. You can get about 50% or more of the books content by reading the introduction and the conclusion of the book.

There you have it. If you follow these simple principles of how to read a book I assure you you will enjoy every book you read.

Be blessed and keep reading.

HOW TO READ A BOOK

Reading a book is very interesting although not many people know this. Most people think reading a book is time consuming. Actually not reading one is what is time consuming. The time you spend in reading a book is an investment into your personality. The knowledge that you will get from that piece of writing can change the trajectory of your life. What you are today is a sum total of all the information you have acquired in the past. The only thing that God rejects His people is on account of ignorance. With the abundance of information around you, you can't just afford to be ignorant. Ignorance does not only mean a lack of knowledge but also the act of ignoring knowledge.

Each one of us has been to the library before or at least once. If not at least you have come across a book before. The question is, why didn't you read it? We live in a time where we are too busy to read. And yet what we are busy for is not something that is leading us to our future. We spend time on TV watching non productive programmes which don't add value to our lives. We attend meetings that are not helping us reach our maximum potential. We are so twisted in our thinking that we have magnified the things we should be ashamed of. Today you may be thinking of where to spend your weekend or what to do but little on reading a book.

Someone once said, "If you want to hide anything from a black man, put it in a book." How do you feel when you hear of such a statement? Of course you feel bad, but what is your action? We make little progress in life because we have not embraced the culture of reading. This is why it is very easy for the white people to tell you anything and you take it as gospel truth because you have no knowledge of what they are telling you. To see real development in our lives, and even our nations, let us lay hold of the information which has built the western countries. Let us not just receive financial aid but let us endeavour to know what they know. Money will never solve a problem but knowledge will.

Give money to an ignorant man he will soon waste it, but give it to someone who has well organised knowledge, he will apply it to develop his/her life. The development we need is tied to knowledge. It is knowledge which is well organised and directed towards the accomplishment of a specific goal which is power. And reading a right book gives you that power.

Everything you would love to know about your skill or area of specialisation is somewhere in a book. Your decision to read a book is a decision to escape destruction. You can live beyond your current level of living if only you applied yourself to reading. In my previous articles I have given the advantages of reading, the importance of reading and I have also shared on how you can find the right book to read.

Now after you have found the right book to read, you have to apply yourself to reading. Reading is a discipline. This is probably why not many people would want to read a book. You have to have a disciplined mind if you are to understand the wealth of information in that book. When you pick a book to read, one thing you should know is that you are sitting right before the wealth of information with enough potential to change the trajectory of your life. Your attitude toward the book you want to read will determine the level of comprehension you will have of its information.

When reading a book, you need to look out for the golden nuggets. Golden nuggets are powerful points or statements that speaks to your interests. Remember a book is a treasure chest. There is wealth of treasure loaded in its pages. So you have to ensure that you absorb every valueable information you can lay your eyes on. It's not everything thing written in a book that applies to your life. Find those things that apply to you and then focus your attention on them. I know you are learning something, but let me reserve some of the information for the other article. It is okay not finish a book you start but I will give the reasons to that in the other article. Goodbye and keep reading.

Choosing the book to read part two

In our previous lesson we looked at how you can choose the book to read. It is not every book that you have to read. For example if you want to become good at selling, you can't be reading books on production. You have to find a book that speaks to your passion. So choosing a book to read has a lot to do with your subject of interest than the title of the book. You have therefore to be very careful because you may end up buying books that you would fail to read. I have seen people with a library of books which they have not read. The fact that you have hundreds of books in your library does not mean that you have read them all. So people love to pride themselves in the number of books they have in their library and yet they have not opened any single one of them.

Choosing a book to read is a skill which has to be developed. People are unaware of this no wonder they make poor book choices. They buy books they are not prepared to read. Some buy and end up regretting because they found out that the information it has is not what they were expecting to find. So here are some few more tips on choosing the books to read.

1. Message. When you want to buy a book, look out for the message. Each book on the shelf carries a message. There is in each book a message which the author has intended to get to the reader. The message of the book is more important than the cover design. There are some books with excellent cover design but poor messages. Just because a book has a great cover design doesn't mean that the message in it is great. So before you make a buying decision, review the book. Read the about the book, look at the table of Content, read the introduction if it is possible because some books come sealed in plastics. Once you do that you will be able to make a good decisions. Some books will only have one chapter which is so appealing and the rest is trash so don't waste money one a book where one chapter is the only one making sense to you.

2. Need. What is the need for buying that book. Except for frictional books, every book appeals to a need. You have to identify the need before making a decision to buy a book. If you don't know what you are looking for and the need for that book then you don't have to settle for it. There are so many books about a lot of subjects. Everyday books are being published threby competing for the market. Buy a book that is appealing to your need. For example if you have identified a need for financial education in your life, there are thousands of books out there with rich information on finances that would change the trajectory of your life. Go and buy them and read. Don't just buy a book that is not meeting the need for buying it.

3. The author's Track record. There are so many upcoming authors some are writing things they don't believe in and are not living. Don't just buy a book because it has an appealing title and a well designed cover. Look at the life of the author. Buy books from authors who have put to work what they have written. If it hasn't worked in their life how is it going to work in your. For example you can't buy a book from a marriage expert who has written a book on marriage but has failed to keep his marriage intact. A person who has written a book on finances and yet he/she poor is not worth buying his/her book. Look for a proven track record.

4. Look for the book reviews. These are the things people are saying about a person's book. There are books that have got reviews from different people who have read maybe the previous work of that person or got an opportunity to read the Manuel script before it was published. These will give you confidence in the work of the author you want to buy and read his work.

Remember when you are buying a book, you are buying into the knowledge of that author. At that particular time that author will begin feeding your mind with his information. So be careful with the books you buy. Buy books that will help you grow from where you. A book is a fertiliser for your mind. As you are reading your mind is being fertilised by the thoughts and opinions of the author. If the person fertilising your mind is negative, you will end up developing a negative attitude.

CHOOSING A BOOK TO READ

How do you choose a book to read?

I have discovered that people don't read books because they don't know which books to read. There are millions of books covering different topics and everyday more books are being published thereby making it difficult for one to find the ideal book to read. With so much information in this generation (The information age) it is very important for one to know the types of books to read.

It is not every book that you can read. Most people when they walk into the books shop maybe to buy a book or in the library to check for some books, become overwhelmed by the number of titles which are in Stoke. As a result they don't find what they are looking for. There is no such a thing as a bad book. Every book that has been published is a good book. But what can make a book not ideal for you is the kind of information you need from that book. So people don't find good books to read because they don't know what they are looking for.

To find a book you need first of all you need to know what you want. You have to be clear on the subject you want to read. For example if you are looking for a book on business, you can't start buying on science topics. Knowing what you want to learn from the book will narrow your list of books to look for. When I walk into the book shop to buy books, I already know the type of a book I need to buy. So whether I find any other books with interesting titles, it will not go for them. I will restrict my choice to the ones I need at that particular time.

Often time people get frustrated when it comes to choosing a book to read. Because of a lack of clarity on what they want, they get drifted away by other good titles. Myles Munroe said, "The greatest enemy of a focused man is destruction." If you are not sure of what you want, you will be sidetracked by secondary activities. When you walk into a book shop to buy a book, know exactly what book you want and the exact title.

The second thing is to know the specific authors. For example if you want to buy a book on leadership, you have to look for credible authors on leadership. There are other people who write things they don't practice and as a result they give out theories which have been proved. Knowing the author who is living his message will make it easy for you to buy a book and read it.

Third, you can choose a book based on what you enjoy reading. For example I love books on leadership, success, ministry and business. That means when I walk into any book shop, I will go straight to the shelf where these books are found. I will not waste my time looking out for other titles instead I will check on the ones that are in line with the things I love reading.

As I conclude, to choose a book consider studying your strength and gifts. People are gifted in different ways. If you love soccer, find books on soccer. If you love leadership, buy books on leadership. Study your strengths. Know what you good at and then look for books that will help you improve in those areas.

WHY MOST PEOPLE DON'T READ BOOKS

In our previous lessons, we looked at some of the advantages and reasons why you should become a reader. Reading not only academic books but more so books that will improve your life can not be overemphasised. Very few people are readers because very little has been said about reading more especially in Zambia. Zambia has been said to be a country with a very poor reading culture. Apart from academic books, people read magazines, newspaper and rarely books on personal development and yet that is what they are supposed to be reading the most. Ask yourself this question, when was the last time you read a book on personal growth? The answer might be recently or I can't remember or I have never read one before. It has been said that most people stop reading the moment they are out of school. What are sad reality.

Reading books opens you up to a whole new level of knowledge. It empowers your mind to think differently. One of the things I appreciate about reading books is that though I began reading personal development and spiritaul books five years ago, I have seen a change in the way I articulate things. My reasoning has improved, my understanding has been boosted and my performance has skyrocketed. There is something that happens in you when you commit your life to reading books. I cannot actually describe it exactly but there is a level of insight into different aspect of life you get as you commit to reading. However, regardless of the advantages of reading books people still don't want to read books.

In this lesson, I will look at some of the reasons why people don't read books.

1. It is expensive to buy a book. People don't read books because they think it its very expensive to buy a book. I used to think that way too when I didn't know the value of books. I thought buying a book was a share waste of money. I could see people buying books but I couldn't understand why someone would buy a book costing k150 to k250. The k150 or the k250 you spend on the book cannot be compared with the value of knowledge you will get from that book. Actually that money is an investment into your future. Someone once said, "If you think the cost of buying the book is high, wait until you incur the cost of not having the knowledge." It is actually more expensive to be ignorant than to get knowledge. When you buy a book, you spend the money once but you have the knowledge forever. When I understood this truth, I began buying books when I had money. Even today I still buy books because I want to know what the author knows so that I can live the life which he or she lives.

2. Not enough time to read a book. An average person reads a minimum of one book per year. Some don't even read. When was the last time you read a book apart from academic books? A lot of people don't read because they don't have time. When I meet people who are fond of making excuses of not having enough time to read I often wonder how they use their 24 hours. Time is never enough hence we must know how to manage it. Squeezing a book in your busy schedule requires enough discipline. Only people who know what they want out of life would sacrifice themselves to reading books.

3. They don't see the value of reading books. One man said, "You will remain where you are 5 years from now except for two things, the book you read and the people you are found with." People have a tendance of not doing things they don't value. If you don't see value in reading you are not going to read a book.

4. People don't know which books to read. People don't read books because they don't the types of books they should read. To be an vide reader of books, you need to discover your area of passion, and then find books that inspires you in that area. For example I read book on leadership, success, relationships, attitude, ministry and business because these are my passions. Find books that speak to your passion.

5. Lack of inspiration. People don't read books because where they are found no one talks about reading books. Man is a visual learner. He learns by modeling, so in the environment where he is if no one talks about reading books then he won't see the need to read.

These are some of the reasons I think people don't read books. And if these are some of the reasons why you have never read a book in your life, then consider becoming a person of books.

WHY SHOULD YOU READ 2?

In our previous lesson for those who took the time to read it, we looked at some of the advantages of being a reader. We looked at how by reading you can get the wisdom in just 20 minutes or 1 hour which the author took many years to learn. In other words, when you engage in serious study of books, you will leverage on the experiences of others. Reading is one of the ways to use the experiences of others both the good and the bad for your own benefit. It is like digging for gold in the mines of great authors. What I know today came through the channel of reading. I used to wonder why reading is that serious until I discovered the truth that the more you read the more you discover what you don't know about yourself and life in general.

So then why should you read?

1. You read because it is essential for your growth. You can never grow beyond what you know. Personal growth is largely limited by what we know. Reading therefore gives you an opportunity to to explore areas of your life where knowledge is lacking. No matter how you argue with this truth, the fact is you will always be limited by what you know.

2. You read because it helps you discover something of essential value. Only readers can discover new truths to life in general. What we are enjoying today starting from the laws or gravity, the laws of finances, the laws of electricity, the laws of agriculture and other laws of life where discovered by people who devoted their lives to research and development. Reading gives you a platform to discover new truth. You will always believe what you have always been believing until you discover a high truth. For example before the Wright Brothers discovered flight, it was believed that only birds could fly. No one believed that humans could fly but today we see people flying in aeroplanes from one country to another.

3. You read because reading upgrades your thinking. I love the idea that reading transforms one's mind from being closed to being open. People who do not read whatsoever (and I am not talking about just reading academic books but reading materials that brings improvement in your life) have a closed mind. They cannot reason beyond their ignorance. Igorance is not necessarily the absence of knowledge but ignoring the presence of knowledge. In this generation there so much information everywhere. Even what I am giving you if you are reading this is information on how you can turn your life around through reading. However, people have made a decision not to value the knowledge which is available to them. Choosing to be ignorant in this generation is a deliberate policy.

People who read have got an open mind. They have the ability to see things from a higher vantage point. I am glad to share with you that my life have been totally transformed since the day I made a decision to be an avid reader. I read 2 to 3 books a week. From January to April 2018 I have read 21 books already. I can say that my life is making progress because of a conscious effort to read everyday.

4. Reading makes you a master in the area of your skill. Earl Nightingale said, "If you read one hour everyday in the area of your skill, in five years time you will become a master in that area." When I heard this I looked at the areas I wanted to be master in. I Identified Leadership, relationship, administration, communication and writing. If I can invest 1 hour everyday in these five key areas, five years from now I will be a master. John C Maxwell said, "We overestimate what we can do in one day and we underestimate what we can do in many days." What you do everyday creates your life whether you like it or not. So by reading 1 hour everyday in the area of your skill, you become an expert over time.

These are just but a few reasons why you should commit yourself to reading. You may not have read a book in years and you are wondering were to start. By following the lessons that I am presenting to you you will be able to develop the hunger for reading. I did not start by reading a book a week. I started by reading a book a month or two and as I began developing so good reading skill, I moved to two a month a until I started reading two a week. I am working now on reading a book a day and I know it is possible.

Thank you for going through this lesson for toady.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO READ?

This lesson will focus on why you should be a reader. Many people don't read because they have not understood the philosophy of reading. Before you can become good of a reader, you have to know the philosophy of reading. When people hear of reading, they justify themselves for being readers. That is quiet true. Everyone reads but the question is what do they read and how do they read what they read and after reading do they retain the information read? Most people more especially in Zambia do not read and if they do, they read newspapers most of the time. While it is good to read newspapers and fiction books you need to also read books that will help you grow.

Readwithme Academy is about helping you become a good reader in the area of your skill not just reading anything. So to start, you have to have an overview perspective of your reading.

If you want to be a good reader, ask yourself these questions:
1. What books do I have to read?
2. What do I want from this book?
3. How will this book be helpful to me?
4. How do I retain the information read from this book?

Knowing the book you want to read and the value of its content to you will put you on the road to having your life transformed. If you know how valuable the information in the book is to you, you will have the zest to read it from cover to cover. More often than not we read books for volume purposes. We read books just to add another volume to the books read. It ought not to be so. Read for the purpose of soaking the information written in the book.

Books are a way of having in*******se with great minds. There are people you will never meet in person whom you will have the privilege to meet through books. For example you might have loved to meet with Napoleon Hill the author of Think and Grow Rich but since he is late the only way you can meet him and tap into his wisdom on successful living is to read his books.

As you read book you are learning in few days what took the writer several years to learn.

What are the advantages of reading books?

1. You will know in one day what took the writer many years to learn
2. Reading books gives you access to the minds of great thinkers. From example you can know how Aristotle, Socrates, Plato and other great thinkers knew during their time.
3. Reading overhauls your mind and upgrades your thinking.
4. Reading delivers into your life valuable information for impactful living
5. Reading enhances the quality of your ideas. The more you read and are well read, the quality ideas you will have.
6. Reading expands your vocabulary. Your vocabulary is enriched when you decide to be a reader.

These are some of the advantages of reading and this the reason why people must be readers.
This is where I end for today. Hope you will begin thinking thinking of begin a reader.

Over the years I have come to appreciate the value of reading. When I was young, I thought being told to read was punishment. I hated reading because I didn't see its value. I am sure you would agree with me that the time you quarrelled with your parents was the time you were told to read. Most of us resent things we don't understand. We avoid things we have little knowledge of. However, as I have grown up, I have come to appreciate so much the value of reading. It is for this purpose that I have dedicated my life to reading. Someone once said, "Reading is to the brain the way exercise is to the muscle." You can't become mentally sound without the exercise of reading. In order to keep your brain and mind young, you have to engage into a continuous study.

Through the channel of this page I will be sharing important insight about reading. I will be sharing what I have learnt through reading that I would also love you to learn. Successful people as I have studied them have one quality in common, they are avid readers. Warren Buffet reads an average of 8 hours a day. John C Maxwell reads an average of two books per week. Successful people are where they are today by the reading rituals they have. I think in my opinion that the ability to read and assimilate information is one of the greatest ability for survival in this information era. People with relevant knowledge in their field of specialisation are the highest paid. To increase your income increase your knowledge. But the sad thing despite this truth is still people won't work on their reading because reading is a skill which has to be learnt.

Readwithme is a programme whose vision is to foster a strong reading culture for generational impact. Through this programme and on this page I will be creating content from different books I have read and I am reading to help you improve your knowledge base and develop in you the hunger and appetite for reading. I will walk you through books and recommend to you the books you would need to buy to improve your skills.

By liking this page, you are stepping into the arena of knowledge. WELCOME!
