PAPAL SHOEMAKER DELIVERS AGAIN

When he heard that Pope John Paul II was suffering from foot pain, Adriano Stefanelli volunteered to put his skills at the service of the pope: to help make comfortable shoes for him.

Since 2003, the Italian shoemaker has been making shoes for popes - Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, Francis, and now Leo XIV.

Known as “the papal shoemaker,” Stefanelli produces exclusive handcrafted, custom-made footwear, as this pair which he indicated that Pope Leo specifically requested.

Should Families Have the Final Say When Someone Wants to Join a Religious Order?

In many Zambian and African families, saying “God has called me” is not enough. The next question is often blunt: “Who agreed?” In our culture, family approval carries heavy weight—sometimes heavier than personal conviction or even faith itself.
Parents argue that they paid the school fees, endured hardship, and dreamed of weddings, grandchildren, and family legacy. To them, religious life can feel like abandonment. Some go further and say: “God cannot call what will bring pain to the family.”
But here is the uncomfortable question: When did vocation become a family investment project?
If families have the final say, then is religious calling truly from God—or from the family council?
In Africa, obedience to parents is sacred. Yet the same faith teaches that obedience to God comes first. Should a grown adult be denied a vocation because the family wants lineage, bride price, or social status? At what point does “respect for elders” become emotional blackmail?
Some insist that refusing family consent is rebellion. Others say blocking a vocation is resisting God. Both sides claim moral high ground.
So let us be honest:
Should families bless a calling—or control it?
If God calls and family says no, who is being disobedient?
👉 Your thoughts? Let’s hear the uncomfortable truth.

1. Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the time when Herod was king. Soon afterward, some men who studied the stars came from the East to Jerusalem
2. and asked, "Where is the baby born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star when it came up in the east, and we have come to worship him."
3. When King Herod heard about this, he was very upset, and so was everyone else in Jerusalem.
4. He called together all the chief priests and the teachers of the Law and asked them, "Where will the Messiah be born?"
5. "In the town of Bethlehem in Judea,"they answered. "For this is what the prophet wrote:
6. 'Bethlehem in the land of Judah, you are by no means the least of the leading cities of Judah; for from you will come a leader who will guide my people Israel.' "
7. So Herod called the visitors from the East to a secret meeting and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.
8. Then he sent them to Bethlehem with these instructions: "Go and make a careful search for the child; and when you find him, let me know, so that I too may go and worship him."
9. And so they left, and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
11. They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and worshiped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and presented them to him.
12. Then they returned to their country by another road, since God had warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod.

Why Age Is Important for Seminary Admission

In one of the comments, a question was asked.
(Pls am so interested to know why the age to an extent is really a key factor for admission into the seminary?)
Below to some extent will do justice.

The Church considers age in seminary admission for pastoral and practical reasons, not to discriminate against anyone.

According to the Code of Canon Law, the diocesan bishop (Major Superiors) has the responsibility to admit only candidates who are suitable for priestly formation (Canon 241). This suitability includes maturity, health, and the ability to complete the long years of formation successfully.

Church documents such as Pastores Dabo Vobis and the Ratio Formationis explain that priestly formation is a long and demanding process that focuses strongly on human and spiritual development. Younger candidates are usually more open to formation, community life, discipline, and personal growth.

Age is also considered so that, after many years of training, a priest will still have enough strength and time to serve the Church actively. Bishops (Major Superiors) must plan responsibly for the future of pastoral ministry and use formation resources wisely.

Therefore, age limits are set out of pastoral wisdom and experience, not because God stops calling people at a certain age, but because the Church must form and send priests in the most responsible way possible.
