Prayer is spending quality time with God.
Notice what Jesus says:
"This is your Father you are dealing with....you can pray very simply ." (Matthew 6:8-9).
In the Old Testament God was very rarely addressed as Father. Jesus did so 170 times in the New. By encouraging us to do the same, He put our relationship with God on a new footing.

Prayer need not be a monologue.

Make it a conversation. At the very least, God has a right to reply?
How?
God is present when we pray. He speaks. And He speaks most clearly through His word.
Prayer and God's word are inseparable.
