Pope Leo XIV met on Thursday with the Diocesan Office for the Universal Church and Dialogue, as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of its creation within the Archdiocese of Cologne, in Germany.

He said the occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the universality of the Church and the importance of dialogue.

EVENING PRAYER 🙏🏾

O God, who restore human nature
to yet greater dignity than at its beginnings,
look upon the amazing mystery of your loving kindness,
and in those you have chosen to make new
through the wonder of rebirth
may you preserve the gifts
of your enduring grace and blessing.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

THE LAST DAY OF APRIL IS HERE!

As the last day of April comes to a close, our hearts turn in quiet gratitude to God. Through every moment—both the joyful and the challenging—His presence has never left us. In ways seen and unseen, He has carried us, provided for us, and surrounded us with love.

There were days we felt strong, and days we struggled. Yet through it all, God remained faithful. His grace sustained us, His mercy renewed us, and His love embraced us even when we felt undeserving. Looking back, we begin to see that every step, every delay, and every blessing had a purpose.

Tonight, we simply say: thank You, Lord. Thank You for the gift of life, for protection, for the people who walked with us, and for the strength to keep going. Thank You for the prayers You answered—and even for those You did not, because Your plans are always greater than ours.

As we prepare to enter a new month, we entrust everything into Your hands once more. May we move forward with hope, trust, and a deeper faith in Your goodness.

The last day of April is here. Thank You, Lord, for keeping us loved and blessed. 🙏🏾

By Bishop Robert Barron

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus announces his betrayal just after transforming bread and wine into his body and blood. It is of great moment that, immediately after this extraordinary event, Jesus speaks of treachery: “The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me.”

In the biblical reading, God’s desires have been, from the beginning, opposed. Consistently, human beings have preferred the isolation of sin to the festivity of the sacred meal. Theologians call this tendency the mysterium iniquitatis (the mystery of evil), for there is no rational ground for it. Therefore, we should not be too surprised that, as the sacred meal comes to its richest possible expression, evil accompanies it.

Judas the betrayer expresses the mysterium iniquitatis with particular symbolic power, for he had spent years in intimacy with Jesus, taking in the Lord’s moves and thoughts at close quarters and sharing table fellowship with him—and yet, he saw fit to turn Jesus over to his enemies.

Those of us who regularly gather around the table of intimacy with Christ and yet engage consistently in the works of darkness are meant to see ourselves in the betrayer.

Feast of the Day: April 30 | Our Lady, Queen of Africa

Our Lady of Africa, also known as Our Mother of Africa, is a Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary associated with a statue of her as a Black woman, located in the major shrine of Notre-Dame d'Afrique in Algiers, Algeria. The devotion was spearheaded by Bishop Louis-Antoine-Augustin Pavy of Algiers, who established the basilica under that title in 1856.

This title is associated with a specific statue of Our Lady in Algeria. Devotion to Mary under the title Our Lady of Africa became popularized in the 1800s. The Our Lady of Africa devotion is popular in both Africa and among African immigrants in other countries.

The feast has its origin in the blessing of a statue of the Blessed Virgin, known as Our Lady of Africa on April 30, 1876 in the newly built church of Our Lady of Africa in Algiers.

Since then the church throughout Africa has adopted Our Lady of Africa as the Patroness of the African Continent.

✝️ STOP SAYING CATHOLICS WORSHIP MARY
_______________________

It is one of the oldest accusations against the Catholic Church.

And one of the easiest to answer.

You have probably heard it before:

"Catholics worship Mary."

No, we do not.

Not even remotely.

In fact, authentic Catholic devotion to Mary is one of the strongest defenses against idolatry.

Why?

Because Catholics know exactly who Mary is, and who she is not.

✝️ MARY IS A CREATURE, NOT THE CREATOR

Mary is the greatest of all saints.
She is the Mother of God.
She is full of grace.
She is blessed among women.
But she is not God.
She did not create the universe.
She did not die for our sins.
She did not rise from the dead.
She herself needed salvation through Jesus Christ.

Catholics know this perfectly well.

✝️ WORSHIP BELONGS TO GOD ALONE

The Church has always made a precise distinction:

Latria - worship due to God alone.
Hyperdulia - the highest honor given to Mary.
Dulia - honor given to the saints.

That distinction is not a loophole.

It is theology.

To adore Mary would be idolatry.

And the Catholic Church condemns idolatry absolutely.

✝️ WHY HONOR MARY AT ALL?

Because Scripture does.

Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out:

"Blessed are you among women!"

Mary herself prophesied:

"All generations will call me blessed."

If Christians refuse to honor Mary, they are not being more biblical.

They are being less biblical.

✝️ ASKING MARY TO PRAY

When Catholics pray to Mary, we are not worshipping her.

The word pray originally meant simply "to ask."

We are asking for her intercession.

Just as you might ask a friend on earth to pray for you, Catholics ask the Mother of Jesus in Heaven.

If the prayers of righteous people on earth are powerful, how much more hers?

✝️ MARY ALWAYS POINTS TO JESUS

At Cana, Mary's last recorded words in Scripture were:

"Do whatever He tells you."

That is her mission.

Always.

Mary never says, "Look at me."

She says, "Look at Him."

The closer you draw to Mary, the closer you come to Christ.

If a devotion leads away from Jesus, it is not truly Marian.

✝️ FINAL WORD

Catholics do not worship Mary.

We honor her.
We love her.
We imitate her.

And we ask for her prayers.

That is not idolatry.

That is biblical Christianity.

✝️ REMEMBER THIS ALWAYS

No Catholic has ever adored Mary as God.

But every true Catholic loves the woman whom God chose to become the Mother of His Son.

To honor Mary is not to diminish Jesus.

It is to magnify the greatness of what God has done in her.
