✝️ WHY DOES THE PRIEST DROP A SMALL PIECE OF THE HOST INTO THE CHALICE?

If you’ve ever watched the priest at Mass just before Holy Communion, you may have noticed a small yet deeply meaningful gesture.

He breaks off a tiny piece of the consecrated Host the Body of Christ and drops it into the chalice containing the Precious Bløód.

This sacred moment is called the commingling, known in the early Church as the fermentum. Though simple in appearance, it carries profound symbolism and ancient tradition.

Let’s explore its beautiful meaning.

1️⃣ A SIGN OF THE RESURRECTION

At the consecration, the Body and Blood of Christ are consecrated separately a visible sign of His death on the Cross, when His Body and Bløôd were poured out for our salvation.

When the priest places a small fragment of the Host into the chalice, he silently proclaims the mystery of the Resurrection:
the Body and Bløôd are reunited Christ is alive!

It is a quiet yet powerful declaration that the Lord we receive in the Eucharist is not dead, but the living, risen Christ victorious over death and full of life.

2️⃣ A SIGN OF UNITY

In the early centuries of the Church, the fermentum had a literal meaning: bishops would send a small portion of the Eucharist from their own celebration to priests in other parishes. This signified the unity of all believers one faith, one Church, one sacrifice.

Today, that same unity is expressed symbolically through the commingling.

The Body and Bløôd are reunited just as all Christians are called to be one in Christ.

It reminds us that we do not worship as isolated individuals, but as members of one family the Body of Christ joined in faith and love through the Eucharist.

3️⃣ A PRAYER FOR PEACE AND ETERNAL LIFE

This sacred gesture takes place right before the priest prays,
“Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world…”

As he drops the small piece of the Host into the chalice, he quietly prays:

“May this mingling of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.”

It is a humble, heartfelt prayer — for unity, for peace, and for the grace of eternal life.

✝️ SO WHAT DOES THIS SMALL ACT MEAN?

-It proclaims that Christ truly died and that He is truly risen.

-It unites the Church the Body of Christ in one faith and one communion.

-It prepares our hearts to receive the living Lord who brings peace and salvation.

So, the next time you see the priest drop that small piece of the Host into the chalice, remember:

It’s not just a ritual.
It’s a silent proclamation of the Resurrection.
It’s a sign of unity.
It’s a prayer of peace.

A small piece of the Host.
A drop into the chalice.
A mystery of life, unity, and redemption.

This is the Commingling.
This is the Fermentum.
This is the Catholic Faith made visible and alive in the Holy Eucharist.

God bless you. ✝️

The Parish Priest for Chirundu Parish, Fr Wilson Sibundonga, has appealed to residents to maintain peace and unity as the country approaches the general elections.
In an interview with Modern Voice News, Fr Sibundonga noted that election periods often lead people to abandon the peace taught by Jesus Christ, resulting in conflict and division.
He stated that development at individual, community, and national level cannot be achieved without peace in people’s hearts and in society.
Fr Sibundonga further urged the public to maintain order and to respect one another during the campaign period, observing that respect is often lost during political activities.
He also encouraged residents to continue showing love to one another throughout the election season.

WHY DO YOU STILL MEET THE PRIEST AFTER MASS FOR PRAYERS?

One day after Mass, a woman waited at the sacristy door and said,
“Father, please pray for me. I need your blessing.”

The priest smiled gently and asked,
“My dear, didn’t I already pray for you during the Mass?”

She paused.
He continued:
“When I raised the Host, I prayed for you.
When I lifted the Chalice, I offered your life with Christ’s.
When I blessed the people at the end, I blessed you.”

She was quiet… then whispered,
“I never thought of it that way.”

✝️ Mass Is Not “Before the Prayer”, It Is the Prayer!

Many Catholics treat the Mass as something that ends before “real prayers” begin.
That’s why, after the dismissal, “The Mass is ended, go in peace”, some still rush to the priest for “special prayers”.

But the truth is:
Every Mass already contains the most powerful prayer any priest can ever offer.

It’s not a prayer, it’s the sacrifice of Jesus Christ Himself.

During Mass, the priest is not praying his prayer, he is standing in the person of Christ, offering the prayer of Christ to the Father.

So when the priest says,
“This is My Body… This is My Blood,”
that is Christ praying for you,
interceding for you,
offering Himself for you.

✝️ The Mass Is the Highest Blessing

When the priest gives the final blessing,
“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”,
that blessing is not ordinary.

It is the culmination of everything that has just happened on the altar.
You have been fed with the Word of God,
nourished by the Body of Christ,
and sealed with His peace.

There is no greater blessing than that!

✝️ Why Then Do Many Still Wait?

Because many Catholics have not yet understood the depth of the Mass.
We are used to thinking that “personal prayers” are stronger, or that the priest must lay hands to make it powerful.

But listen carefully:
The priest’s hands have just touched the Body of Christ.
His lips have just spoken the words of consecration.
His heart has just been united with the heart of the Eternal High Priest.

You cannot get any “stronger” prayer than that.

✝️ Yes, Priests Can Still Pray for You

Of course, if you need a specific intention, for the sick, for exams, for work, you can always ask the priest to remember you.
That’s beautiful and good.
But never think that what happens after Mass is more powerful than what happened during it.

Because at Mass, the entire Church, saints, angels, the Blessed Mother, and Christ Himself, already prayed for you in one voice.

✝️ So… Next Time You Leave Mass

Remember this:
When the priest blesses you at the end of Mass, he has already prayed for your healing, your family, your needs, your soul.

You’ve already stood at Calvary.
You’ve already received Christ.
You’ve already been blessed.

No private prayer can ever be greater than that.

🙏
So when you go home after Mass, don’t say,
“I didn’t get Father’s prayer.”
Instead, say,
“I received the prayer of Heaven itself.”

THEME: "TO BE BORN FROM ABOVE"

It is said that if you want to know if the pumpkin is ripe, do not shake the vine, observe the fruit. In a similar way, if you want to know the people of resurrection, do not look at what they say but how they live.

In the Gospel, Jesus tell Nicodemus to be born from above(άνωθεν) this makes him to be confused how can a person be born again? This is because the word used there in Greek is άνωθεν which may mean, again, from above , from the beginning or from the first. He takes the meaning "to be born again" and understands it in a literal sense leaving the one of "to be born from above." which makes him to misunderstand what Jesus was saying.

As Easter people it is our invitation to be born from above. But what does it means to be born from above? The meaning we find it in the first reading; being born from above simply means being of one "heart" and "mind"- the heart is the centre of Love, the heart is the centre of our action and mind is the centre of will, and decision. Therefore, being of one heart and mind means making a decision to love others and always be willing to be at the service of others.

By this then we will be born from above and the resurrection of Jesus would have transformed us.

The question is what has changed about us from the time we celebrated the resurrection of Christ?
