*THURSDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF EASTER.*

*FIRST READING*
β€œSee, here is water! What is to prevent my being baptised?’’

*A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (ACTS 8: 26 - 40)*

In those days: An angel of the Lord said to Philip, β€œRise and go towards the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert road. And he rose and went. And behold, an Ethiopian, a eu**ch, a minister of Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of all her treasure, had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning; seated in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah. And the Spirit said to Philip, β€œGo up and join this chariot.” So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and asked, β€œDo you understand what you are reading?” And he said, β€œHow can I, unless some one guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this: β€œAs a sheep led to the slaughter or a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken up from the earth.” And the eu**ch said to Philip, β€œPlease, about whom does the prophet say this, about himself or about some one else?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news of Jesus. And as they went along the road they came to some water, and the eu**ch said, β€œSee, here is water! What is to prevent my being baptised?” And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eu**ch, and he baptised him. And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught up Philip; and the eu**ch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus, and passing on he preached the gospel to all the towns till he came to Caesarea.

*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*
Taken from Psalm 66: 8 - 9, 16 - 17, 20 (R.) 1

And the response is;
*R/. Cry out with joy to God, all the earth.*
Or;
*Alleluia.*

O peoples, bless our God;
let the voice of his praise resound,
of the God who gave life to our souls
and kept our feet from stumbling. *R/.*

Come and hear, all who fear God;
I will tell what he did for my soul.
To him I cried aloud,
with exaltation ready on my tongue. *R/.*

Blest be God, who did not reject my prayer,
nor withhold from me his merciful love. *R/.*

*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*
John 6: 51

*Alleluia.*
I am the living bread which came down from heaven, says the Lord; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever.
*Alleluia.*

*GOSPEL*
β€œI am the living bread which came down from heaven. ”

*A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (JOHN 6: 44 - 51)*

At that time: Jesus said to the crowds, β€œNo one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, β€˜And they shall all be taught by God.’ Every one who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Not that any one has seen the Father except him who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

*TUESDAY, THIRD WEEK OF EASTER*

*FIRST READING*
_β€œLord Jesus, receive my spirit.”_
*A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 7: 51-8:1a)*

In those days: Stephen said to the people and the elders and the scribes, β€œYou stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.” Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth against him. But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, β€œBehold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.” But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together upon him. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him; and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, β€œLord Jesus, receive my spirit.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep. And Saul was consenting to his death.

*RESPONSORIAL PSALM*
*Psalm 31:3bc-4, 5 and 7b-8a,17 and 21ab (Response is taken from Psalm 31 verse 6a)*
And the response is:
_*R/. Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit*_

Be a rock of refuge for me,
a mighty stronghold to save me.
For you are my rock, my stronghold!
Lead me, guide me, for the sake of your name. *R*/.

Into your hands I commend my spirit.
You will redeem me, O Lord, O faithful God.
As for me, I trust in the Lord.
Let me be glad and rejoice in your mercy. *R*/.

Let your face shine on your servant.
Save me in your merciful love.
You hide them in the shelter of your presence,
secure from human scheming. *R*/.

*GOSPEL ACCLAMATION*
Taken from John 6:35ab
*Alleluia*.
_I am the bread of life, says the Lord; he who comes to me shall not hunger._
*Alleluia*.

*GOSPEL*
_”It was not Moses, but my Father who gave you the bread from heaven.”_
*A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (John 6:30-35)*

At that time: The people said to Jesus, β€œThen what sign do you do, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, β€˜He gave them bread from heaven to eat. ”’ Jesus then said to them, β€œTruly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world.” They said to him, β€œLord, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, β€œI am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.”
