Did you know? The tearing of the Temple veil spoke volumes about the Passion of Christ?

At the very moment our Lord Jesus Christ cried out and gave up His spirit on the Cross, the massive curtain separating the Holy of Holies in the Jerusalem Temple was miraculously rent from top to bottom by the hand of God Himself.

This was no ordinary event!

The veil, thick and heavy, shielded the innermost sanctuary where only the high priest could enter once a year on the Day of Atonement. It symbolized the barrier between sinful humanity and the all-holy presence of God under the Old Covenant.

⚡But when the true Lamb of God offered Himself once for all, that barrier was supernaturally torn open. As the Church teaches, this prefigured the tearing of Christ's own sacred flesh — the "new and living way" opened for us through His Body (Hebrews 10:19-20). Jesus is the true Temple, and in His Passion, He becomes our eternal High Priest.

The early Church Fathers reflected deeply on this mystery...

✅ St. Augustine and others noted that the rending happened precisely when Jesus "gave up the ghost," showing it was no coincidence but a divine sign.

✅ Commentaries preserved in the tradition (such as those gathered by St. Thomas Aquinas) emphasize that the outer veil was torn to signify that the mysteries once hidden were now revealed through Christ's death: the ceremonies of the old law were fulfilled and the way into God's presence was opened not just for one priest, but for all believers.

⭐ In the Catholic understanding, this tearing points directly to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. No longer confined to a physical temple that would soon be destroyed (in A.D. 70), God's presence now dwells among us in every tabernacle.

Through the Eucharist, we enter the true Holy of Holies — receiving Christ's Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity — drawing near with confidence because of His once-for-all sacrifice.

Catholic Bishops in Zambia Pledge Continued Accompaniment of Young People After AMECEA Plenary

Catholic Bishops in Zambia have pledged to continue accompanying young people in their faith journey following the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly, which placed youth at the center of the Church’s mission.

The Bishop of Mongu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Evans Chinyemba O.M.I., said young people are vital to the growth of the Church and must be accompanied at every stage of their lives. He added that the resolutions of the plenary would be incorporated into the pastoral plans of his diocese.

The Bishop of Mansa Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Chisanga OFM Conv., said the plenary theme demonstrates the Church’s commitment to journeying with young people. He described youth as key partners in building the Church and reaffirmed his commitment to involving them more actively in diocesan life, while encouraging them to participate in the upcoming youth rally where the outcomes of the plenary will be shared.

Livingstone Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Valentine Kalumba O.M.I., also pledged to continue walking with young people, while Solwezi Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde, expressed hope that the plenary resolutions would be implemented at AMECEA, national, and diocesan levels through programmes that empower young people and strengthen youth ministries.

Chipata Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. George Lungu, encouraged young people to remain hopeful, while Mpika Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Edwin Mulandu, urged them to listen to their bishops and priests and remain responsible, particularly as Zambia heads toward the general elections.

Kabwe Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Clement Mulenga SDB, said the Church understands the challenges facing young people and will continue working closely with them.

Monze Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Raphael Mweempwa, encouraged youth to actively participate in formation programmes to enable them to make meaningful contributions to the Church.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Ignatius Chama of Kasama Archdiocese called on young people to take a leading role in the mission of the Church, urging them to be at the forefront of building the Church’s future, while also encouraging them never to backslide.
