Your faith will be tested
Today's Reading Job 1-3
"Even after all this, Job did not sin. He did not accuse God of doing anything wrong.” Job 1:22

Life has a lot of twists and turns, moments of testing, failures and triumphs. Whatever the case how you respond in such times will say a lot about your faith in God and level of maturity.
Job was quite a unique man who stood out among the nobles of his time. As you go through life always know and remember that moments of testing will come and they come unexpected. That’s why you are to always, _“…be strong in the Lord and in his great power”_ (Ephesians 6:10). Be prepared for every challenge that comes your way knowing that no matter what comes your way He is still God and will remain standing.
Right at the beginning of this episode, the personality and standing of Job is announced, _“… whose name was Job, and that man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil”_ (Job 1:1). Wow! What an introduction. Can you imagine being introduced like that. It’s not just what you say with your lips but with your character and lifestyle that matters. So, many claim to be Christians but very few live up to its standard.
Job lost everything from his ten children, animals he possessed and all his riches but at no time did he accuse or curse God. I just love the fact that he was such a unique man that even both God and satan acknowledged it, “And the Lord said to Satan, _“Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?”_ (Job 1:8). God couldn’t be more proud.
_“Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord”_ (Job 1:20, 21). Unlike most of us instead of going to God and saying but why or even turning away from God, he drew even closer to God and worshiped Him. He also realized that all I had was and is given by God, I did not bring anything in this world. Whatever you have is temporal only God is eternal. Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Lord, I thank you. I pray that you teach me to stand no matter what comes my way because I know you are always God. In Jesus name. Amen
Thought: Will I stand like Job when my faith is tested?

God in Control
Today's Reading Esther 7-10
"Queen Esther answered, “If I have obtained your approval, my king, and if the king is pleased, spare my life — this is my request; and spare my people — this is my desire." Esther 7:3

When you pray always believe that God will answer and trust Him. Remember the steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD (Psalm 37:23). As Esther allowed God to lead and guide her, even with the help of her cousin Mordecai, she prepares and invites the king and Haman to a banquet. Prayer needs action, act upon your prayer.
And because she had challenges to make her request, God stirred the heart of the king and he is the one who initiates and asks her for anything (7:2). Hallelujah! When God leads, He shows Himself strong. This becomes a great opportunity for Esther to make her request known. ‎
‎ When the king heard that Haman was behind such an evil plot, he ordered Haman to be hanged on his own gallows, and the Jews were saved (7:7). According to Persian culture, when the king rose to go, and went out in anger, was a sign that no mercy was to be hoped for.
At the right moment Esther introduces Mordecai to the king. And Mordecai is made one of the seven counselors (8:15, 16). The king took his ring and put it on Mordecai basically transferring to him all the power and ‎authority which the ring symbolized.
Don't worry and feel forgotten. No one is forgotten in God. In His time He makes all things beautiful (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Esther went again and pleaded with the king concerning the letter Haman had written to destroy the Jews.
‎ A new edict was issued overturning Haman’s dispatches and giving the Jews the right to defend themselves and the right to assemble and annihilate any armed force that might attack them. ‎‎So, Esther saved the day. It’s no wonder that the Jews every year celebrate the Feast of Purim in memory of these days.
‎ God preserved the Jews in Susa through Esther. If you want to wipe out God’s people, you will need to wipe out God first! God preserves His people. We may die for Him, but we'll still be preserved. So we can be confident that there will always be an Israel and there will always be a Church.
This story encourages us that we can go as far as we can to get a good position in the world, provided we remain true to our faith. God can use us for the kingdom in high positions, so we can let Him put us where we can make advances.‎ ‎
The story closes with Mordecai the second highest ranking person to King Xerxes (10:3). Let patience have her perfect work in you for your time will come when the LORD will visit you.
Prayer:
LORD I thank You for the story of Esther. In here You remind me that for such a time as this You have put me where I am. May I always be conscious of Your presence and Your guidance. In Jesus name. Amen
Thought: What has God provoked in my spirit through the message in the book of Esther?

*For Such a Time as This*
*Today's Reading* Esther 4-6
_"...who knows maybe you were made queen or brought in the kingdom FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS?"_ *Esther 4:14*

Esther saw that the challenge was so great, something she could not easily do lest she be put to death, she told Mordecai. This right here is where you see giftings (callings) working together. You are in the place you are today because God has something for you to do not just for yourself but for others as well.
As Esther debated what to do and expressed fear because she could be killed if she went to the king without an invitation. Mordecai said to Esther, "If you keep silent at this time relief and deliverance for the Jews will come from some other place..." (4:14). Don't tell me there is no God in this conversation.
Mordecai knew the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The One who made a way where there was no way. How much do you know your God? Daniel 11:32, tells us, "...they that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits."
Esther's reluctance had just triggered a button on Mordecai's life. Which took Mordecai back to Moses standing before Pharaoh, David facing Goliath and many more life and death situations, I can only imagine. And in the end, he writes Esther, "...who knows maybe you were made queen or brought in the kingdom FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS?" (4:14). Amen. This right here is the pinnacle of this story.
Somebody may have come in your life for Such a Time as this. Ask yourself why you are where you are. It's not by accident that you are there and reading this this year. Seek God and let him reveal that. To someone there, could be your relationship with the LORD was dying, your marriage was gone, you needed a spouse, needed direction, had lost hope and direction in life, needed a child, a job, you name it but through the brethren you have found hope and a reason to live again. Feel like preaching. Thank You Jesus!
Mordecai's response touched a certain area of Esther's life. She like the four lepers in Kings was like, if I perish, I perish. She asked Mordecai to gather some Jews to fast. While she and her women in the palace fasted as well.
God allowed Haman to go ahead with his annihilation plans and at the same time Mordecai, Esther and the king had their own thing going. I love this how God sits up in the heavens knowing the end of the story as it plays out. What are you facing today, weapons will form but they shall not prosper.
As soon as the king saw Esther enter the king's court, he stretched out the scepter (5:2). She won his favor. That was won during the fast and was just manifesting here. Seek God in prayer and even fast for certain situations in your life.
One night the king could not sleep, so he started going through his diary. In there he came to a place where Mordecai revealed to him about an assassination plot and realized that Mordecai was not rewarded (6:1-3). You think you have been forgotten, someone is not sleeping over your deeds of kindness.
The very enemy for Mordecai, Haman is the one who gets to dress him in royal robes and take him round the city (6:10). When your payback comes, God will make sure those who despised and plotted against you are the first ones to see it or the ones to declare it.
*Prayer:*
LORD I thank You for this story of the Jews, for such a time as this. May I live and do that which You have called me to in this season and time. Have Your way in Jesus name. Amen
*Thought:* What has God designed for me in this place and season am in?

Winning Grace and Favor
Today's Reading Esther 1-3
"The king loved Esther more than all the other women. She won more favor and approval from him than did any of the other young women. He placed the royal crown on her head and made her queen in place of Vashti." Esther 2:17

The wisest man, Solomon said, there is time for everything, indeed life proves so. Where you are today is not where you will be tomorrow, keep working on you. Be obedient and trust those leading and guiding your life.
The setting of this story in Esther is so interesting to see how the different scenes are played out only to come to one conclusion. My prayer is that after reading this book, you can pick up the pieces of your life and see God at work even at points you didn't call or mention Him.
King Xerxes calls all the nobles from all his 127 provinces stretching from India to Ethiopia. He threw a banquet lasting six months (180 days) where he displayed his opulent wealth and splendor. After those days where completed, he threw another banquet for 7 days and his queen Vashti had one for the women. At the end of the 7 days, Xerxes called Vashti to come and dance before the guests and show off her beauty, she refused to come (1:11, 12). ‎
Vashti's refusal to come and dance not only costed her queenship but also opened a way for Esther. All things work together for good to those that love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). God will elevate you when the time is right. That's why in life you don't need to fight for positions and all but faithfully continue working on your life.
After king Xerxes had made consultations with his advisors they banished Vashti as queen and a royal beauty contest was ordered throughout the region. God always has a remnant. Among the girls who came was Mordecai's cousin, Hadassah (her Jewish name) later given a goddess name Esther. She was well groomed by Mordacai, an orphan girl who he took up as his own daughter (2:5-7). I love here how God's faithfulness begins to unfold in Esther's life. ‎
Just like Ruth, as Esther entered this beauty pageant she received God's favor all the way (2:9). Mordacai on the other hand would come to the palace collect some information and share with Esther. At one point he heard of an assassination plot against king Xerxes and went and mentioned to him, but the king never reacted but recorded it (2:21). Mordecai was not even rewarded after investigations proved true. I hope this speaks to some of your acts of kindness where you have not been rewarded. Your payback is coming. And also remember that there is a book where everything you do is being recorded and will be opened one day (Revelation 20:12, 15).
Through His grace and favor, we shall win.
Prayer:
LORD I thank You this morning for Your Word. As I see Esther elevated from a nobody to a queen, may I learn to wait upon You for my time is coming. For all my acts of kindness where I have not been rewarded, my payback is coming too. Thank You once again for Your providence. Help me continue with your presentation while I wait for my appointed time. In Jesus name. Amen‎

*That Moment When It’s Done*
*Today's Reading* Nehemiah 10-13
_"In view of all this, we are making a binding agreement in writing on a sealed document containing the names of our leaders, Levites, and priests."_ *Nehemiah 9:38*

Wow, wow, wow! Great lessons displayed by these Jews in the book of Nehemiah. It's not enough to turn away from evil and worldly things but you must wholeheartedly commit to the LORD. Upon realizing what they had neglected which ended them in exile for 70 years they came back and covenanted afresh with the leadership as well as the LORD (9:38). ‎
Among the things noted was the giving of their Firstfruits, their Tithes, Temple tax to take care of the maintenance of the temple, taking care of the Levites and priests' up keep, desisting from intermarriages with pagan people and many more (10:35-37). May we also reflect on these and commit to renew our relationship with God. What are you not doing here and other New Testament commands? Selah
We must realize that when all gives even a little to a good work, it will come to be large. Also one important thing in our lives is that we must not only cease to do evil but we must learn to do well.
We see at the dedication of the now completed Wall of Jerusalem everyone doing their assigned duties. The Levites, the priests, the singers, the gatekeepers and the rest. Also interesting to note is the giving that was done for all those who served in this service (12:44-47). It's like we all have a debt not only to the LORD but to those who minister before Him. Also remember those appointed to serve the LORD before you.
With Ezra in their midst they always turned to the Word. We see them reading from the book of Moses (13:1). Also sad thing observed was that they started trading on the LORD’s day (13:15-17). Sometimes instead of being in the House of the LORD to worship we want to run our businesses and justify it that we'll bring our tithe. God is interested in your whole worship of Him.
We need a genuine transformation of the LORD from the inside out. We note that as Nehemiah went to Persia to meet the king everything changed with the people. They quickly forgot about their duties and neglected giving tithes and taking care of the Levites and priest such that they had to go back to work (13:10). Let's not forget those who minister before the LORD.
‎ Nehemiah 13:10 says, "I also found out that because the portions for the Levites had not been given, each of the Levites and the singers performing the service had gone back to his own field." What a shame. This is what happens when God’s servants are neglected. There are no offerings, tithes and other giving coming in the house of the Lord to support His servants and the work. May we be faithful in giving and supporting God’s work.
*Prayer:*
Father God, thank You this morning for all You have shown me from this book. May I renew my commitment to You this day and do what I am required to do according to Your word. Thank You LORD and I trust You will remind me by Your Holy Spirit to be faithful. In Jesus name. Amen
*Thought:* How committed am I to God, and in giving in support of His work?

Always Faithful
Today's Reading Nehemiah 7-9
I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the Palace, charge over Jerusalem. For he was a faithful man, and feared God above many. Nehemiah 7:2

Most times we wonder why we cannot be entrusted with certain responsibilities or allowed to serve in certain areas, God knows that you cannot be trusted. He is looking for men and women of integrity who even if they are not being watched can still be trusted.
There are very few people who are so royal and trustworthy that they can do the right thing even if nobody is around watching them. What will differentiate you from the heathen and the rest of them out there is this quality. Do whatever you can to be trusted and remain that way.
In today’s study, we see Nehemiah display his high quality leadership characteristic. May all those who lead, show that they have the great leader, the LORD, Master Himself leading them. We have seen such dependence on God from all those who led before this time - Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David and so on.
Look what Nehemiah did after the temple was completed, he gave charge to Hanani and Hanniah over Jerusalem. Hanani was appointed because he was a faithful man and feared God (7:2). Nehemiah picked the two men to be leaders over Jerusaleam based on those two qualities: the fear of God and their faithfulness.
God is still looking for these two qualities even today. Paul said, "...I thank God...who counted me faithful putting me into the ministry" (1 Timothy 1:12). Let these qualities be in you as you serve the LORD today. Serve Him with all your heart, soul and mind.
When left to yourself, can you be trusted, are you faithful? This also goes with the fear of God. You want to maintain your testimony and hence you will be able to stand any temptation that comes your way and with God on your side this will be possible.
Look what God said about Moses, “Not so, My servant Moses. He is faithful in all My house.” Num 12:7
Our God Himself is a faithful God: “Therefore, know that Jehovah your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations.” Deut. 7:9. In chapter 9:33, he says though we have acted wickedly, God has been faithful. Know even today in your life that God will always be faithful regardless. He cannot deny Himself.‎ Praise the Lord.
Prayer:
LORD thank You this morning for Your word that sets me free. Search my heart that I may commit to You wholly. I give myself to You once again. In Jesus name. Amen
Thought: Are you faithful, can God count on you, if not what stops you?

*A Can Do Attitude*
*Today's Reading* Nehemiah 4-6
_So we built the wall, and all the wall was joined together to the half of it. For the people had a mind to work._ *Nehemiah 4:6*

This journey of life doesn’t always go easily and smoothly. Even when you know God is leading and guiding you into whatever you are doing the devil will always find a way of showing His ugly face into it.
With a determined and focused attitude, Nehemiah and his team continued to build. The fact that you survive opposition one, does not mean it will not come again. The devil is so determined to do everything possible from stopping you to become, succeed or even prosper in your plans.
But thank God that we can have a "Can do attitude”. Sanballat and Tobiah his companion in crime came to despise the work of Nehemiah and his Jewish team (4:1-3). Man will always despise your small beginnings and if you are not careful you give up and fall into the trap and quit, but not Nehemiah. Instead of meditating on what the enemy was saying, he went into prayer and sought help from the LORD. Where does your help come from? (Psalm 121:2). Oh praise the Lord.
I love the attitude in (4:6), they built the wall in the midst of opposition. You are there waiting for opposition to go away, just continue working. In fact, we see it grow with an addition of Arabs, Ammonites and Ashdodites (4:7). When you tend to resist, it even intensifies but that’s when you do even more.
When the enemy threatened to physically come and fight Nehemiah and his team, Nehemiah armed his men (4:16). They had a weapon in one hand and worked with the other. Jesus said, "Watch and pray…" (Mathew 26:43). Also Apostle Paul has encouraged us to put on the whole Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Sometimes when we look like we have won or quieted external enemy attacks, the devil somehow instigates our fellow brethren in our midst. Nehemiah begins to deal with a situation in his own camp over food charges and between the rich and the poor. Sometimes in our lives as Christians we face such internal opposition from fellow Christians who are supposed to be encouraging us. Furthermore, we have opposition within ourselves.
After Nehemiah had completed rebuilding the wall, his enemies not satisfied, tried to distract him. Four times they invited him to join them but determined to accomplish what the LORD had laid on his heart, he refused to go. They got so upset with him but he never gave up. A can do attitude.
*Prayer:*
I call unto You LORD and trust You to give me a can do attitude. May I not fall into the trap of the devil. Deliver me always from evil. Like Nehemiah may I continually trust and consult with You. In Jesus name.‎ Amen
*Thought:* What stops me from following God wholeheartedly and doing what He calls me to do?

Let’s Rise and Build
Today's Reading Nehemiah 1-3
"When I heard these words, I sat down and wept. I mourned for a number of days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven." Nehemiah 1:4

Nehemiah was such a dynamic and inspirational leader. When you think you need to have so much money or some great big connections to do something big, Nehemiah shows that all you need on your side is a relationship with the God of Israel.
His mission started as he inquired about his fellow Jews who were already in Jerusalem and about the city of Jerusalem (1:1-3). What he Heard Moved his heart but most importantly are the Actions or Response he took (1:4).
When he heard of the shame of his brothers in Jerusalem and the broken walls, he was touched and moved (1:4).
Then he took the following actions:
- He Sat down - before embarking on any assignment, sit down and count the cost. Is it something you can do, do you have what it takes or a way of approaching it, and how do you achieve your goal? Jesus also taught that you need to sit down, count the cost and see if you have enough to finish (Luke 14:28).
- He Prayed and Fasted – you need to learn to make your requests known to God (Philippians 4:6, 7). Yes, you have a desire, passion, dream but take it to the LORD in prayer before taking any step as you know the steps of the righteous are always ordered by the LORD (Psalm 37:23).
Today, there are a lot of unfinished and unfulfilled dreams because these principles shown here are not considered by most and they get stuck and don't get anywhere.
Nehemiah was a man of prayer, both privately and publicly. He prayed about everything and God did a lot for him behind the scenes. If we want to see great results in our lives we need to be both men of the Word (Ezra) and of Prayer (Nehemiah).
I just love how in his prayer (1:5-10), he shows us the fact that he knew that the God he was talking to was a Covenant keeping God. Do you? He goes to remind God of His promises all the way back to Moses.‎‎ Hallelujah!!
Prayer changes things and through it God brings us favor before men. Nehemiah who was just a Cup bearer to King Artaxerxes found favor before the king. Not only did the king release him to go but he also wrote letters of recommendation for safety of passage and provided an army to es**rt him.
As soon as he arrived, he was met with opposition, Sanballat and Tobiah (2:10). That's why it's so important to pray before embarking on any project, that you may know that no matter what opposition comes, God is with you. Also know that opposition will always be there, but God will be by your side.
One other thing worth noting and to learn from Nehemiah is not to be too quick to share dreams, passions on our hearts with whoever we find. That’s why at times they fail to take off because those ideas are discouraged before going anywhere. Nehemiah says he had not shared with the men he was inspecting the walls with not even the people who were going to do the work with him, what God had laid on his heart (2:12,16).
He mobilized the people only after he had done his research and they all collectively stood and agreed to rise up and build. Praise the Lord.
Prayer:
Covenant keeping God and always Faithful even times when I fall short. May I learn from Nehemiah Your servant to seek Your face continually in all my situations. You answer prayer and You watch over Your word to perform it. Thank You LORD in Jesus name. Amen
Thought: What burden has God laid on my heart to help build and rebuild His kingdom?

Bringing a Change through God's word
Today's Reading Ezra 7-10
"This Ezra was a scribe who was well versed in the Law of Moses, which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given to the people of Israel. He came up to Jerusalem from Babylon, and the king gave him everything he asked for, because the gracious hand of the Lord his God was on him." Ezra 7:6 NLT

How much of God and His Word is in you? How do people define you in relation to God and His Word? May you be so filled with God's word that wherever you go, His power will go before you.
This last portion of the book of Ezra deals mainly with the reform in Jerusalem. Ezra means "help". He had such an outstanding ministry of the Word of God that he is believed to have written first and second Chronicles and portions of Psalm 119. It was under Ezra that a revival of Bible study is seen.
Ezra's ancestry is traced right back to Aaron as a Levite (priest), (7:6). One could not operate as a priest at this particular time unless he was qualified and called as one. He was a priest and scribe who was skilled to teach the Law of Moses. He was learned in matters of the commandments of the LORD and His statutes for Israel (7:11).
‎ Ezra's expedition was the second in returning from Babylon after the Persians defeated Babylon, the first being that of Zerubbaal and Joshua (chapter 2). He came to teach probably because the law had been neglected during their time in exile for seventy years.
His return was aided by king Artaxerxes (7:11-8:14). This king was so impressed with Ezra's love for the Word of God and even financed his return. Oh that we might live lives that others would learn to have respect and love for the Word of God. ‎Thirteen years later this same king authorized Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
It is believed traditionally that Ezra was the founder of the synagogue worship which arose in the days of the captivity. This was continued when they returned as there was no temple yet.
At the time of Ezra's return, he found things had worsened with his fellow Jews. Although they did not return to Idolatry, they had intermarried ‎with the people they found and done everything that these heathens had taught them (9:1-4). The princes and priests were the worst offenders.
It took Ezra's weeping and brokenness before God to change the hearts and minds of the people (10:1-3). They realized their sin and how that they had broken faith with their God in marrying these foreign women.
Prayer:
LORD I come to You this morning with humbleness of heart that in whatever I do, may I not marry anything or anyone that will take me away from You. May I always be devoted to Your Word and be an example to others. Teach me not just to study your word but to apply it in my life. In Jesus name. Amen
Thought: What am I doing to make sure the word of God has an impact first on my life and then those around me?

Working in the Midst of Opposition
Today's Reading Ezra 3 - 6‎
"Then the people who were already in the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build. They also bribed officials to act against them to frustrate their plans throughout the reign of King Cyrus of Persia and until the reign of King Darius of Persian." Ezra 4:4-5

May it be known that every time you set your heart to restore or raise up true worship to the Only True God, Jehovah, satan will raise up adversaries. Yes the LORD spoke to you but the enemy will not sit and watch you do God's work. And sometimes it's surprising where opposition comes from.
So as these Jews returned with a mission to rebuild the temple as per decree from King Cyrus of Persia whose heart was stirred by God, they faced opposition from the Samaritans who were in Judah. Jews and Samaritans were in constant opposition. Samaritans were born out of an intermarriage between Jews who had escaped the exile and gentles. They were half breed Jews.
The New Testament teaches not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers and this here is what happens when such occurs. These Samaritans did it in a subtle way by offering to help (4:1,2). Don't let people who don't understand your vision carry it. Sometimes we wonder why certain things don't work in our lives while they work in others. Seek to receive your own revelation. Hear God for yourself.
Opposition grew so much that the adversaries had to write the king of Persia to stop the work (4:6). Rebuilding of the temple stalled for about 15 years until God raised two good kings who urged the men to carry on with the work. As we continue to seek His face He brings us into seasons of His favor (Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11). Hallelujah!!!
For the priests who were in charge of this project, God raised support for them in prophets Haggai and Zechariah. Prophets see or speak of things in the future and they were so much needed at this time to encourage the priests and the rest of the builders. Here we see how that we need everyone's gift to build God's kingdom. Though we are many, we are one body in Christ.
And yes, opposition never stopped and neither did the men relent in building. Haggai in his book even talks about this how the people lived in sealed houses while the house of the LORD lay in ruin. The LORD raised king Darius of Persia who when asked to stop the rebuilding of the temple went and checked the archives and saw where king Cyrus decreed that it should be rebuilt and issued a decree that the work should resume (6:1-4).
One thing the devil never learns is that whatever he means for evil God always turns for good. Not only did he, king Darius ask for the work to resume but also instructed the governors who opposed to be there and supply all that will be needed and once complete the animals for the sacrifice. Hallelujah!!!
And finally in the midst of opposition from all sides, the temple was rebuilt and dedicated again to the LORD. There was jubilation once again in the land. I pray you get to do whatever God is leading you to do despite the opposition and challenges in your life.
Prayer:
LORD thank You for reminding me this morning that opposition will always be there from satan as I build Your kingdom. I ask that You give me strength like You gave these men that they never stopped until the temple was established and given to You. In Jesus name. Amen
Thought: What's trying to stop me from serving God, may I be strengthened to continue?
