FORMER CHAVUMA LAWMAKER NABBED FOR CARRYING A FIREARM IN PUBLIC
Police have arrested former Chavuma Member of Parliament VICTOR LUMAYI for allegedly going armed in public at a nomination centre in North western province, contrary to Section 84 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. LUMAYI was apprehended on 24th May, around 17:30 hours in Zambezi District.
It is alleged that on 20th May, 2026, around 08:30 hours, at Chavuma District Council Offices, which were being used as a nomination centre for Chavuma Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. LUMAYI entered the premises while armed with a firearm without lawful authority, causing fear and alarm among members of the public.
Police public relations officer GODFREY CHILABI says officers recovered one Ta**us pistol and fourteen rounds of ammunition from the suspect who has been released on bond and is expected to appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, Police in Kalumbila district have arrested REDSON SISALA aged 45 for allegedly going armed in public at Kalumbila Town Council Civic Centre, which was being used as a nomination centre for Parliamentary and Mayoral candidates by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
Mr. CHILABI says the suspect was found in possession of a 9mm Girsan pistol and ten rounds of ammunition, he openly carried the firearm, causing panic and disrupting proceedings.
He adds that Mr. SISALA has since been released on police bond, pending court appearance.
Police also arrested seven other suspects in Kalumbila District for idle and disorderly conduct, contrary to Section 178(f) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
