When alcohol is excessively abused what follows is liver Cirrhosis.

The liver becomes hard and the veins there can no longer evacuate enough blood from the abdomen to the heart causing fluids to remain in the abdomen. Leading to Abdominal swelling.

When you reach this level you can only wait for your day of resting in peace, the liver at this level can not heal.
