What Are Your Intentions?
John 5:1–15
The lame man at the pool of Bethesda had been in his condition for 38 long years. Year after year, he lived with the intention of jumping into the pool when the angel stirred the water. Yet, despite his intention, he did not have the strength to make the move.
Even though his body was weak, his expectation remained alive. He believed that one day, when the angel of the Lord stirred up the waters, he would jump in and be healed.
However, when Jesus met him and asked him a question of faith, he responded with a complaint but still held on to his belief in the healing he was yet to receive. At the command of Jesus, this man believed and obeyed God’s word by picking up his mat and walking, not after hesitation, but instantly. His Healing happened in that very moment.
Brethren, this is the same condition we often find ourselves in. Sometimes you may think you need someone to push you forward, but God is saying your intention, your willingness to wait on Him, and your faith at the appointed time are enough for your breakthrough. And when the Lord steps in, just like this man, you don’t need to get into the water. His word alone is enough to convict your heart through faith and bring your healing.
Intention fuels expectation. Even while being intentional, you must also have faith. Though the wait may be long and painful, the outcome will be unique. Yours will not be like others. Others may reach their blessing through their own strength and effort, but like the man at Bethesda, your testimony will come through faith and obedience, leaving people amazed.
Jesus knows you. He knows the intentions you have and the desires still burning in your heart. But the real question He asks is: “Do you want to be healed?”
This question calls for active faith, not just wishful thinking. Too often, we respond to God’s question with complaints about our situation instead of a confident, “Yes, Lord!”
Remain in the waiting room of faith. And when God asks, “Do you want to be healed?” don’t bring excuses, and don’t focus on what you lack. Simply answer with faith: “Yes, Lord.” Because when faith meets the appointed time, your healing will come.
