In the Catholic Church, cardinals are divided into three ranks, or orders: Cardinal Bishops, Cardinal Priests, and Cardinal Deacons
- CARDINAL Bishops: This is the highest rank, and its members are typically bishops from dioceses surrounding Rome or are appointed directly by the Pope. They often assist the Pope with major decisions
- CARDINAL Priests The most numerous group, these are usually bishops and archbishops of major dioceses from around the world. They oversee their dioceses while also holding an honorary parish title in Rome.
- CARDINAL Deacons: Members of this rank typically work in the Roman Curia, which is the central administrative body of the Church. After 10 years, they can opt to become cardinal priests.
