THE SEVENTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR II.

THE MEMORIAL OF SAINT IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA, PRIEST.

FIRST READING
“All the people gathered about Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.”

A reading from the Book of Jeremiah (JEREMIAH 26: 1 — 9)

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, “Thus says the Lord: Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah which come to worship in the house of the Lord all the words that I command you to speak to them; do not hold back a word. It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, that I may repent of the evil which I intend to do to them because of their evil doings. You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law which I have set before you, and to heed the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you urgently, though you have not heeded, then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse for all the nations of the earth. ”’ The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord. And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die! Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant’?” And all the people gathered about Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Taken from Psalm 69 :5, 8 — 10, 14 (R.) 14c

And the response is;
R/. In your great mercy, answer me, O Lord.

More numerous than the hairs on my head
are those who hate me without cause.
Many are those who attack we, enemies with lies.
What I have never stolen, how can I restore? R/.

It is for you that I suffer taunts,
that shame has covered my face.
To my own kin I have become an outcast,
a stranger to the children of my mother.
Zeal for your house consumes me,
and taunts against you fall on me. R/.

But I pray to you, O LORD,
for a time of your favour.
In your great mercy, answer me, O God,
with your salvation that never fails.R/.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
1 Peter 1: 25

Alleluia.
The word of the Lord abides for ever; that word is the good news which was preached to you.

Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Is not this the carpenter’s son? Where then did this man get all this? ”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (MATTHEW 13: 54 — 58)

At that time: Coming to his own country, Jesus taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these, mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?” And they took offence at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honour except in his own country and in his own house.” And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

THURSDAY, JULY 30TH 2026.

SEVENTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR II.

FIRST READING
“Like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.”

A reading from the Book of Jeremiah (JEREMIAH 18: 1 - 6)

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my words.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. Then the word of the Lord came to me: “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done? says the Lord. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.”

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Taken from Psalm 146: 1b - 2, 3 - 4, 5 - 6ab (R.) 5a

And the response is;
R/. Blessed is he who is helped by Jacob’s God.
Or:
Alleluia.

My soul, give praise to the Lord;
I will praise the Lord all my life,
sing praise to my God while I live. R/.

Put no trust in princes,
in mortal man who cannot save.
Take their breath, they return to the earth,
and their plans that day come to nothing. R/.

Blessed is he who is helped by Jacob’s God;
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
who made the heavens and the earth,
the seas and all they contain.R/.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Acts 15: 14b

Alleluia.
Open our hearts, O Lord, that we may give heed to the words of your Son.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“They sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad.”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (MATTHEW 13: 47 - 53)

At that time: Jesus said to the crowds, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and quashing of teeth. “Have you understood all this?” They said to him, “Yes.” And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.” And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there.

FIRST READING
“Why is my pain unceasing? If you return, you shall stand before me. ”

A reading from the Book of Jeremiah (JEREMIAH 15: 10, 16 - 21)

Woe is me, my mother, that you bore me, a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have not lent, nor have I borrowed, yet all of them curse me. Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts. I did not sit in the Company of merrymakers, nor did I rejoice; I sat alone, because your hand was upon me, for you had filled me with indignation. Why is my pain unceasing, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will you be to me like a deceitful brook, like waters that fail? Therefore thus says the Lord: “If you return, I will restore you, and you shall stand before me. If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless, you shall be as my mouth. They shall turn to you, but you shall not turn to them. And I will make you to this people a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail over you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you, says the Lord. I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.”

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Taken from Psalm 59: 2 - 3, 4, 10 - 11, 17, 18 (R.) l7d.

And the response is;
R/. God is my refuge in the day of my distress.

Rescue me from my foes, O God;
protect me from those who attack me.
O rescue me from those who do evil,
and save me from bloodthirsty men.R/.

See, they lie in wait for my life;
the strong band together against me.
For no offence, no sin of mine, O Lord. R/.

O my Strength, for you will I watch,
for you, O God, are my stronghold,
the God who shows me merciful love.
Now God will proceed before me,
God will let me look upon my foes. R/.

As for me, I will sing of your strength,
and acclaim your mercy in the morning,
for you have been my stronghold,
a refuge in the day of my distress. R/.

O my Strength, to you I will sing praise,
for you, O God, are my stronghold,
the God who shows me merciful love.
R/.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
John 15: 15b.

Alleluia.
I have called you friends, says the Lord, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things. ”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (LUKE 10: 38 - 42)

At that time: Jesus entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her.”

TUESDAY, JULY 28TH 2026.

SEVENTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR II.

FIRST READING
Remember, Lord, and do not break your covenant with us.

A reading from the Book of Jeremiah (JEREMIAH 14: 17b - 22)

Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is struck down with a great wound, with a very grievous blow. If I go out into the field, behold, those slain by the sword! And if I enter the city, behold, the diseases of famine, for both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land, and have no knowledge. Have you utterly rejected Judah? Does your soul loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; for a time of healing, but behold, terror. We acknowledge our wickedness, O LORD, and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you. Do not spurn us, for your name’s sake; do not dishonour your glorious throne; remember and do not break your covenant with us. Are there any among the false gods of the nations that can bring rain? Or can the heavens give showers? Are you not he, O Lord our God? We set our hope on you, for you do all these things.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Taken from Psalm 79: 8, 9, 11, 13 (R.) 9bc

And the response is;
R/. For the sake of the glory of your name, free us, O Lord.

Do not remember against us
the guilt of former times.
Let your compassion hasten to meet us;
for we have been brought very low. R/.

Help us, O God our saviour,
for the sake of the glory of your name.
Free us and forgive us our sins,
because of your name. R/.

Let the groans of the
prisoners come before you,
your strong arm reprieve
those condemned to die. R/.

Then we, your people,
the flock of your pasture,
will give you thanks forever and ever.
From age to age we will
recount your praise. R/.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia.
The seed is the word of God, and the sower is Christ; all who find him will abide for ever.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Just as the weeds are gathered and burnt with fire, so it will be at the close of the age.”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (MATTHEW 13: 36 - 43)

At that time: Jesus left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burnt with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.”
