THEME: NO SHORT CUTS. ALWAYS BEHIND JESUS ✝️

This is a discipleship theme. It’s about obedience over convenience.

1. Core Meaning
"No shortcuts" = Jesus never took the easy way. 40 days in the desert, the cross, waiting on the Father.
"Always be behind Jesus" = Discipleship. In Bible times, a disciple walked behind their Rabbi. Where He went, they went. How He lived, they copied.

So this theme says: Don’t rush ahead of God. Don’t go around Him. Follow Him step by step, even when it’s slow.

2. Key Scriptures
- Luke 9:23 - "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."
- John 10:4 - "When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice."
- Matthew 4:1-11 - Jesus refused shortcuts from the devil in the wilderness. He chose God’s way.
- Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

3. 3 Points for a Talk/Sermon
1. No Shortcuts in Character
God is building you, not just blessing you. You can’t skip the process of prayer, integrity, and waiting. Saul took a shortcut with sacrifice and lost the kingdom. David waited and got the crown.
1. Always Be Behind Jesus in Decision
Don’t make the decision, then ask God to bless it. Walk behind Him first. Ask: "Jesus, where are You going?" Then follow. Peace is the confirmation.
1. The Reward of the Long Road
Shortcuts give quick results but long regrets. The road behind Jesus gives delayed results but lasting fruit. "He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion." Phil 1:6

4. Real-Life Applications
- Work/Business: No cheating customers, no fake papers. Do it God’s way. It’s slower, but God honors it.
- Relationships: No cutting corners with purity, honesty, forgiveness. Follow Jesus’ example.
- Ministry: Don’t chase clout. Serve where He puts you. Be faithful in small.
- Faith: Prayer, Word, obedience daily. No "microwave" Christianity.

5. Quotes & Caption Ideas
- "God’s detours are not delays. They are discipleship."
- "If Jesus is not leading, I’m not following. If it’s a shortcut, it’s not from God."
- "Behind Jesus is the safest place to be."
- "Character is built in the long way. That’s why there are no shortcuts."

6. Prayer Prompt
Lord, forgive me for running ahead of You. Teach me to wait, to obey, and to walk behind You. I choose Your process over my shortcuts. Lead me.

AUGUST 30TH 2026.

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR A.

FIRST READING
“The word of the Lord has become a reproach for me.”

A reading from the Book of Jeremiah (JEREMIAH 20: 7 - 9)

O Lord, you have deceived me, and I was deceived; you are stronger than I, and you have prevailed. I have become a laughing stock all the day; every one mocks me. For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, “Violence and destruction!” For the word of the Lord has become for me a reproach and derision all day long. If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Taken from Psalm 63: 2, 3 - 4, 5 - 6, 8 — 9 (R.) .2ab

And the response is;
R/. For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.

O God, you are my God; at dawn I seek you;
For you my soul is thirsting.
For you my flesh is pining,
Like a dry, weary land without water. R/.

I have come before you in the sanctuary,
to behold your strength and your glory.
Your loving mercy is better than life;
my lips will speak your praise. R/.

I will bless you all my life;
In your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet;
With joyful lips, my mouth shall praise you. R/.

For you have been my strength;
In the shadow of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings fast to you;
Your right hand upholds me. R/.

SECOND READING
“Present your bodies as a living sacrifice.”

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (ROMANS 12: 1 - 2)

I appeal to you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

The Word of the Lord.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Ephesians 1: 17 - 18

Alleluia.
May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our hearts that we might know what is the hope to which he has called us.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“If any man would come after me, let him deny himself.”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (MATTHEW 16: 21 - 27)

At that time: Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, “God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men.” Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and who ever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done.”

The youths from Holy Saviour Parish and St Joseph (Soloboni) are currently participating in their annual retreat, held at Divine Mercy Parish in Kafue Gorge. This year's theme is "Go and repair my church."

The retreat commenced yesterday, Thursday, August 27th, and will conclude on Sunday, August 30th, 2026. This gathering provides a valuable opportunity for the young participants to deepen their faith, engage in personal reflection, and assess their life journeys.

We offer our prayers for divine guidance and blessings throughout this enriching retreat.
