Churches from across Chipata came together at All Saints Congregation in a solemn and reflective gathering to commemorate the life and legacy of Zambiaโs founding President, Kenneth Kaunda.
The event, which brought together various denominations under the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Chipata, was held under the theme โPraying for National Peace in an Election Year.โ It emphasized unity, faith, and the responsibility of citizens as the country approaches a significant electoral period.
Delivering a message during the gathering, CCZ Chairperson, Rev Josphat Nkole of the United Church of Zambia UCZ Bethel Congregation - Chipata reflected on Dr. Kaundaโs enduring legacy. He highlighted Kaundaโs life of sacrifice, noting that Zambiaโs peace and identity today are rooted in his leadership and commitment to unity.
The chairperson also spoke on Kaundaโs Pan-African vision, acknowledging his role in supporting the liberation of neighboring countries and promoting freedom beyond Zambiaโs borders. He encouraged attendees to embrace the same spirit of unity and national interest.
The gathering further underscored the importance of national symbols the flag, national anthem, coat of arms, and the eagle as representations of Zambiaโs identity and values. Participants were reminded of the national motto, โOne Zambia, One Nation,โ as a call to uphold peace and togetherness.
In his message, Rev Nkole emphasized the echoed KK' believe in strong family values, beaconing the family as the foundation of a stable and prosperous nation. He also highlighted Kaundaโs deep Christian faith and his association with the various Churches including the United Church of Zambia, where he held some leadership roles.
As the nation prepares for upcoming elections, the church leaders called on citizens to remain peaceful, prayerful, and united. The event concluded with prayers inspired by Kaundaโs independence-era reflections, asking for Godโs guidance, unity among citizens while breaking the yoke of bo***ge.
The commemoration served as a reminder of the sacrifices made for Zambiaโs independence and the continued need to uphold the values of peace, unity, and national pride.
