Finding Purpose in Service: A Sunday of Faith and Community
As the morning sun warmed the streets of Kabwe last Sunday, I found my heart full, not just as a parishioner, but as a daughter of this community we call home. At the Roman Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Parish, I joined my brothers and sisters in Christ for Mass, a sacred rhythm that grounds me week after week. There, in the pews where I’ve prayed for decades, I’m reminded that faith isn’t lived in isolation, it’s woven into the fabric of our lives, our families, and our duty to one another. After we shared the Eucharist, presided over by our Bishop, I was reminded to check on some of the families we have been supporting in small ways - as the Christian teaching tells us to share what we have with those who may not have.
Some know me as a mother, who has raised her children in this community, a wife who shares life’s journey with a devoted husband, or a grandmother whose greatest joy is hearing the laughter of her grandchildren fill our home. But beyond these cherished roles, my faith calls me to serve quietly, consistently, and with open hands.
For years, I’ve walked alongside many of you, not as a voice from afar, but as a neighbour. Whether supporting various causes, listening to market traders’ struggles, or kneeling in prayer together, I believe service is our shared covenant. The Church teaches us to be "doers of the word" (James 1:22), and that work extends far beyond these walls into kitchens where mothers worry, classrooms where children dream, and streets where hope sometimes flickers.
To my Kabwe family: Thank you for the lessons, growth and experience over the years. Let’s continue lighting candles, not cursing darkness.
