REVEREND SHANZI APPLAUDS CONGREGANTS FOR COLLABORATING WITH THE CLERGY

Reverend Cynthia K. Shanzi commended Members of The United Church of Zambia (UCZ), Galilee Congregation of Chelstone Consistory, for the support she received during her service as Minister in Charge of the Congregation.

Rev. Shanzi said the collaboration between her office and Church Members was the heartbeat of a thriving Congregation.

Her collaboration with the laity moved the church from Sunday-only gatherings to a living, active community that served, grew, and supported one another. The Reverend attributed the major strides the Congregation score to the sound relationship she shared with the laity.

She made these remarks on 3rd May 2026 during her Farewell Service at The UCZ-Galilee Congregation. She said the Church thrives when the Clergy and Laity work as one body, She emphasized out that both are essential in achieving Church objectives.

“As a family, we built meaningful and lasting relationships, we learnt to embrace one another, to love with the joy we found, and to be content with the affection we shared. You carried the Church’s vision into daily life. Without collaboration we would not have achieved much, nor made the Church healthy and multiplied. I honor and appreciate every one of you for your support, kindness, and commitment,” Reverend Shanzi said.

Reverend Shanzi concluded by encouraging the Church to continue supporting the Ministry regardless of the Minister in Charge, and to build a stronger Community with faith Members with shared load that yields a fruitful and sustainable Ministry.

RELIVING THE BRIGADES JOINT ENROLLMENT AND REDEDICATION SERVICE CELEBRATED

The Church isn’t just for Sunday hymns and quiet prayers. It has proven to be a place where future leaders gets their first taste of responsibility, teamwork, and a little bit of marching practice.

The United Church of Zambia has continued to partner with Interdenominational groups whose principles intertwines to build a responsible and impactful Youth. It has also been proven that no one does Youth energy better than the Boys Brigade (BB) and Girls Brigade (GB).

The Brigades mottos for the two groups says it all. “‘Sure and Steadfast and ‘Seek, Serve and Follow Christ”. Basically teaching the Boy and Girl Child to stand firm, serve well, and keep their shoes polished while they do it.

The impact of a group is measured by enrollment of new Members and signifies how much a group is positively calling new Members to work for the Lord.

March 28, 2026, the 25th Lusaka Company of St. Stephens Congregation held a joyous joint Enrollment and Rededication Service for the Boys and Girls Brigade Company unlocking the significant gap between the Youth Groups.

The colorful event was officiated by the Congregation’s Minister in Charge and Chaplain Rev. Leyson Mwale and witnessed by the UCZ Synod Bishop, Rev. Bishop Festus Chulu.

It was painted Red, Blue, White, Yellow, with Drums beating, badges shining, parents snapping pics and Members of Congregations turned up in their numbers and witness the memorable and transformative event.

During the Rededication and Enrollment Service, the Congregation enrolled and rededicated 17 officers and 94 boys, promoted two NCOs to the rank of officers and three Staff sergeants to the rank of officers. While the Girls Brigade Rededication 27 officers and 105 girls and promoted 2 to the position of officers.

Meanwhile Reverend Leyson Mwale the reminded the youths that God will use them to conquer their enemies once they do what God requires of them. With the Church Sermon drawn from the scriptures Exodus 3:1-12 and Luke 4:16-19.

“I encourage you GB and BB members to wear your uniforms because you are separated individuals that God surely uses, go out there and be the light” he said.

The Reverend added that as young as they are, God wants to use them, citing Moses in the Bible on how He used him to set the captives free.

“Nowadays Children are scared or frightened about a lot of evil happening but I came to remind you that God has come to set the captives free,” the Reverend shared.

Reverend Mwale encouraged the youths to embrace the Teachings of the two groups, leverage the trainings that brought through the partnership and share the benefits other boys and girls to better the societies the girls and boys emerge from.

The event demonstrated how the two youth groups can actively work together in the growth of the Church.

FINDING HOPE IN THE FRAGMENTS: A REFLECTION ON EASTER.

Rev. Bishop Dr. Lordwell Siame challenged the congregation to rethink how they view opportunities. He said that God’s blessings don’t always come polished packages; He often provides the raw opportunity rather than the finished result.

Bishop Siame highlighted how Jesus remained focused on His purpose despite immense suffering, calling on the Church to emulate. “We are encouraged to spend more time counting blessings and less time complaining, as challenges are often the very things that push us toward our destiny.” The Bishop said.

The Lusaka Presbytery Bishop made these remarks during the Easter celebration at St. Marks Congregation. St. Marks Joined other Believer’s in The United Church of Zambian and Christians around the world in celebrating Easter.

He led on a spiritual journey "On the Road to Emmaus," offering a profound perspective on how we navigate life’s most difficult moments, Drawn from the book of Luke 24:13–21.

it was distinct honor of welcoming a familiar and beloved face to the pulpit, His presence brought a sense of homecoming to the congregation as they gathered to celebrate the miracles of Easter.

In a powerful call to action, The Bishop spoke candidly about the human tendency to experience "shattered expectations." Just like the disciples walking to Emmaus, we often find ourselves overwhelmed by disappointment.

This "vision gap" occurs when we want God to answer prayers exactly as we envision them, forgetting that His plans are designed for our ultimate good. When we are blinded by grief or consumed by problems, we frequently fail to recognize Jesus walking right beside us.

Bishop Siame reminded the congregants that what feels like a delay is often God refining our faith. "Your business may have gone under," he noted, "but remember: God has resurrected. Every setback is temporary because Jesus has already defeated everything."

A central theme of the message was the intentional shift from lament to thanksgiving. Even when we feel "down," it is merely a temporal state. Referencing the book of Philippians. When God raises you from humble beginnings, you are established; even a stumble is just a brief pause, not a permanent fall.

This requires us to pay attention to our responsibilities and treat everyone with dignity, following the Golden Rule. The Bishop offered a touching reminder regarding family: regardless of a child’s struggles or life choices, they remain a child of God with a purpose. Every child is a blessing and should never be cursed.

As the service concluded, the congregation was left with a powerful affirmation: You are a blessing, not a curse. While some dreams may shatter, they often do so to make room for a higher purpose.

The Bishop emphasized on the importance to walk away from our own "Emmaus roads" with new eyes—ready to see the resurrected Christ in every challenge and to live a life defined by gratitude rather than disappointment.

THE ESSENCE OF HOLY HOLY WEEK AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CHRISTIANS?

Holy Week is the most important time in the Christian calendar which begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday, During this week, Christians remember the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

These events are at the heart of the Christian faith because they show God’s love and the victory of life over sin and death.(Reflection scripture John 3:16).

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. On this day, Jesus entered Jerusalem, and people welcomed Him by waving palm branches and praising Him.

This joyful celebration also reminds Christians that soon after, Jesus would face suffering and betrayal, showing the contrast between worldly praise and spiritual sacrifice.(Reflection Matthews21:8-9).

Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, and Holy Wednesday follow Palm Sunday. During these days, Christians reflect on Jesus’ teachings, His challenges with the religious leaders, and His preparation for the events that would soon unfold. These days are a time for prayer, study of the Bible, and spiritual reflection.

This is followed by Holy Thursday better known as Maundy Thursday, which commemorates the Last Supper Jesus shared with His disciples and the washing of their feet which symbolized humility and service.(Reflection scripture John 13:14-15).

Good Friday is a solemn and serious day when Christians remember the death of Jesus on the cross. It is a time for prayer, silence, and reflection on His suffering and sacrifice for humanity.

Many churches hold special services and reenactments to help believers understand the depth of His love.(Reflection Scripture Isaiah 53:5).

Holy Saturday is a day of waiting and reflection. Christians remember that Jesus was in the tomb, and they prepare for the joy of His resurrection. Some churches hold Easter Vigil services at night, celebrating the light of Christ coming into the world.(Matthew 27:57-60).

Easter Sunday is the climax of Holy Week, As It is the day Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead for it shows how he overcame death.

His resurrection brings hope, joy, and the promise that life is stronger than death. It reminds believers of God’s power and love for all humanity.(Reflection Scripture Matthew 28:5-6).

Holy Week is important because it helps Christians reflect on their faith and grow closer to God. It encourages prayer, repentance, and acts of love and humility.

By remembering Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection, Christians are reminded of the foundation of their faith and why it matters in their daily lives.(Reflection Scripture Romans 5:8).

ONE PATH, ONE SAVIOR: CONGREGANTS JOINS HISTORIC PALM SUNDAY PROCESSION

This Palm Sunday, the streets of our communities were transformed into a vibrant corridor of praise. In a powerful display of ecumenical unity, St. Mark’s, All saints, St. Johns and Chamba Valley stood shoulder-to-shoulder with brothers and sisters from the United Church of Zambia (UCZ), the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ), Baptist, the Presbyterian community and other Denominations.

A Symphony of Faith in Motion
The day began not inside the sanctuary, but on the move. Our symbolic procession from various designated points was more than just a walk; it was a public declaration of our shared faith.

Led by the stirring, triumphant anthems of the BB Brass Band, the atmosphere was electric. Clergies from across the denominations—including our own leadership—marched at the front, reminding us that while our traditions may vary, our destination remains the same.

This journey marked our collective transition into the sacred intensity of Passion Week, turning a historical event into a living, breathing reality for everyone watching from their doorsteps.

Highlights from the Word
Once the procession settled, the Clergies delivered a profound message centered on The Joy of the Triumphal Entry taken from the books of Zechariah 9:9-10 & Mark 11:7-10).

The sermon challenged every believer present:
That Beyond the Cheer: "Hosanna, Hosanna " is more than just a slogan; it is a desperate cry for salvation. We were reminded that our praise must be a catalyst for daily transformation, not just a Sunday ritual.

Earthly royalty was challenged with the King of Kings. Jesus Christ didn’t demand the streets be polished for His ego; He entered the city with a singular, selfless mission: to save humanity.

The message was clear—the celebration of the palms is inseparable from the reality of the sacrifice to come. Salvation finds its true meaning only at the foot of the cross.

GIRLS’ BRIGADE ENROLMENT CELEBRATED

The Chaplains, Reverend Lubinda Manyando and Reverend Frank C. Bwalya commended the Girls brigade organization for operating under a unified Christian framework that remains interdenominational and inclusive.

They noted that the Girls’ Brigade provides a safe space for girls to grow, learn, and develop skills, effectively empowering them to become confident, responsible leaders in the community.

They made these remarks during the Girls’ Brigade Enrolment and Rededication celebrations held recently for St. Marks and All Saints Companies at their respective Congregations under the theme “Walking in Obedience.”

The girls and officers danced their way into the Church auditoriums in celebration of the love they have for the Brigade and the pride it has bestowed upon their lives, demonstrating before the Congregations the core values gained through the organization's teachings.

The girls reaffirmed the motto "Seek, Serve, and Follow Christ," reflecting the mission to help young women become dedicated followers of Jesus.

During the sermon, Reverend Frank C. Bwalya preached on the message "Obedience Brings Blessings", drawn from Deuteronomy 28:1-14 and Ephesians 6:1-3.

The Reverend encouraged the girls to remember that strong character brings a positive influence to families and societies, which in turn spurs development.

Reverend Bwalya further urged the officers to be examples for the girls to emulate and asked parents to prioritize the education and foundation of their children to lessen the future burden on society.

Meanwhile, Reverend Lubinda Manyando demonstrated the importance of a sound relationship with God as the key to being a true light and a faithful follower of Christ.

The Reverend reminded the girls to exhibit high moral standards at all times, embodying integrity, wisdom, compassion, and the strength of a virtuous woman. Rooted in faith and selflessness, such a girl acts with the dignity and kindness modeled by Jesus.

Reverend Manyando concluded by encouraging families and the Church to create a conducive environment for girls to thrive, noting that doing so builds stronger mother figures and ensures a more resilient society.

NEW GENERATION RISING: PRESBYTERY COMMEMORATES YOUTH SUNDAY WITH POWER AND PURPOSE

“If we do not do it ourselves, no one will!” This was the clarion call that echoed through our sanctuaries this past Sunday.

Following a week of intensive spiritual growth and "Educative Youth Week", the youth of various congregations within the Presbytery stepped out of the pews and into the pulpit, taking full charge of the Sunday Service.

LEADING TODAY, NOT JUST TOMORROW.
The atmosphere was electric as the youth Ministry breathed fresh life into our traditional worship. Through a vibrant display of drama, spoken-word poetry, and choral ministrations, they proved that they are not merely the "leaders of tomorrow"—they are the gifted, capable, and spirit-filled leaders of today.

Their presence at the altar and in the liturgy served as a powerful reminder that the future of the Church is already in capable hands.

THE MESSAGE: BREAKING THE CHAINS OF STAGNATION
The spiritual highlight of the day was the sermon, centered on the timely theme: “Overcoming Fear and Insecurity.”

Drawing from the foundational scriptures of Jeremiah 1:7-8 and 1 Timothy 4:12, the youth preachers spoke with a maturity that belied their years.

The message was clear: many people fail to reach their full potential not because they lack talent, but because they lack the right knowledge and are paralyzed by the fear of the unknown. The congregation was challenged to:

Rediscover Lost Direction: To stop viewing their lives through a lens of negativity and start seeing their worth through God’s eyes.

Emulate the Courage of David: Just as young David stood undaunted before King Saul and Goliath, our youth were encouraged to recognize the divine strength they possess in God.

Live by Design, Not by Accident: An emphasis was placed on the fact that no youth should merely "exist" in society. Every individual has been predestined by God for a definite and glorious destiny.

A CALL TO CHANGE THE NARRATIVE
The sermon also touched on a universal struggle: Anxiety. While it is a battle faced by many regardless of age, the youth were specifically exhorted to overcome it in order to spur success and progress.

“We must realize that fear and insecurity make us stagnant in every aspect of life,” one preacher noted. “However, we are the ones chosen to change the stories in our families, our communities, our Church, and the world at large.”

THE CHALLENGE FORWARD
As the service concluded, the challenge was extended to the entire congregation: The time to change is now. By shifting our mindsets and renewing our thinking, we can overcome the fears that have previously held us back.

We congratulate our youth on a stellar Sunday and a successful Youth Week. Let us continue to support them as they release their potential and contribute positively to the Body of Christ. The world will never be the same once we begin to see things through the eyes of

BOYS BRIGADE ENROLMENT AND REDEDICATION AT ALL SAINTS CONGREGATION

The 19th Lusaka Boys Brigade Company held a successful enrolment and rededication ceremony at All Saints Congregation on February 22, 2026. The event was graced by Reverend Frank C. Bwalya, Minister in Charge, who preached on the theme "Changing the Retrogressive Narrative" from Deuteronomy 1:6-8 and Luke 5:1-9.

In his sermon, Rev. Bwalya emphasized the importance of having a strong relationship with God to change one's narrative. He urged the boys to rise up with boldness and make a decision to change their story, saying, "Salvation is personal, therefore, make a decision now."

The Reverend also denounced the tendencies of child abuse, particularly the molestation of girl children, and encouraged the boys to emulate good values. He advised them to change or dissolve the company of bad friends, citing Deuteronomy 1:6-8.

Rev. Bwalya concluded by urging the church to remain strong in prayer, emphasizing the acronym P.U.S.H - Pray Until Something Happens! The Boys Brigade representative encouraged boys to attend Boys Brigade and parents to enroll their children in the inter-denominational Christian organization.

The event was witnessed by church members and family members of the boys being enrolled and rededicated.
