Brethren: Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.

For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” So let no one boast of men.

For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future, all are yours; and you are Christ’s and Christ is God’s.

And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land.

And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.

And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

OUR NIGHT PRAYER

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Merciful Father, we thank You for the gift of this day and for being with us through every moment. We are grateful for Your unfailing love and protection.

As we prepare to sleep, forgive us for our sins and give us hearts filled with peace. Protect our families, friends, and loved ones from every danger and keep evil far from us.

Lord, take away our worries and fears. Bless those who are sick, those who are struggling, and those who need Your help tonight.

May Your angels watch over us, and may we wake tomorrow with renewed strength and a grateful heart.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
Saint Joseph, pray for us.

“We are God’s fellow workers,’ you are God’s field, God’s building.”

*A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians (1 CORINTHIANS 3: 1 - 9)*

Brethren, I could not address you as spiritual men, but as men of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you with milk, not solid food; for you were not ready for it; and even yet you are not ready, for you are still of the flesh.

For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh, and behaving like ordinary men? For when one says, “I belong to Paul,” and another, “I belong to Apollos,” are you not merely men? What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each.

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.

He who plants and he who waters are equal, and each shall receive his wages according to his labour. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.

Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them.

And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them, and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

And when it was day he departed and went into a lonely place. OUR NIGHT PRAYER

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Lord, we thank You for carrying us through this day. Thank You for Your blessings, protection, and mercy.

As we go to sleep tonight, forgive our sins and give us peaceful hearts. Protect us, our families, and our loved ones from every danger and evil.

Bless those who are sick, struggling, or in need of Your help. May Your presence remain with us throughout the night.

Grant us peaceful sleep and allow us to wake up tomorrow with good health, strength, and gratitude.

Our Lady of Peace, pray for us.
Saint Joseph, pray for us.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

*FIRST READING*
“The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God; the spiritual man judges all things.”
*A reading from the Letters of Saint Paul to the Corinthians (1 CORINTHIANS 2: 10b - 16)*

Brethren: The Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For what person knows a man’s thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit.

The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

The spiritual man judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice, “Ah! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.”

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.

And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.”

And reports of him went out into every place in the surrounding region.

When l came to you, brethren, l did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. For l decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And l was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling; and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

He opened the book and found the place where it was written, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." And he closed the book.and gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them.

"Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." And all spoke well of him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?" And he said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ' Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Capernaum, do here also in your own county.'"

And he said, "Truly, l say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country. But in truth, l tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land; and Elijah was sent to none of them but only to Zarephath, in land of Sidon to a woman who was a wisdom.

And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian." When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath.

And they rose up and put him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong. But passing through the midst of them he went away.
