The Bishop of the United Church of Zambia Eastern Presbytery made a called on church members and leaders to strengthen church structures and improve information flow within various groups during an administration visitation to Chipata South Consistory, last Friday.
Speaking during the visitation, which attracted the clergy, YCF, MCF, WCF leadership from across the consistory, the Bishop emphasized the importance of respecting the five courts of the church namely the section, congregation, consistory, presbytery and synod how they work in hormony.
He explained that the Synod remains the supreme law-making body of the church and also holds the authority to demarcate presbyteries once they become too large for effective administration among the many of its mandate.
The Bishop further noted that the Chipata South Consistory is located in a strategic position and must rise to the occasion by ensuring that church groups remain vibrant and functional. He said the effectiveness of a Consistory can be measured through active church groups such as the BB, GB, WCF and MCF, commending the youth executive through the Consistory Chairperson Rev. Muswema for successfully organizing the sports event for the consistory youth, that such should be encouraged and the Youths must be given all the necessary tools and resources for such.
The church leader also stressed the need to improve communication and address existing gaps in some church groups, particularly in areas concerning information dissemination, rededications, conferences and Bible study activities at Consistory level.
During the interactive session, one member raised concern over individuals who are highly active at Presbytery level but less involved in lower church courts. In response, the Bishop acknowledged that the matter has already reached higher church authorities and is being treated with serious concern.
The Bishop further clarified that while rededications are conducted freely, renewal of church membership requires payment according to church regulations.
Chipata South Consistory Chairperson Rev. Muswema thanked the Bishop for the visit and guidance rendered to the church leadership and members. The gathering was marked by active participation from various church groups and leaders, reflecting unity and commitment within the Consistory.
