Lay Preachers Equipped for Evangelism at Musune Complex

The Beginners Lay Preachers’ Convention for Rusangu Conference is currently underway at Musune Complex, with a strong focus on equipping members for active evangelistic ministry.
The training, running from 30 April to 3 May 2026, has brought together beginner lay preachers for intensive spiritual and practical preparation aimed at strengthening their role in soul-winning. A separate convention for advanced lay preachers is expected to take place in July 2026.
Addressing participants, Conference President Pastor Gladwin Mangwatu called on lay members to remain steadfast in the Lord and to serve as faithful witnesses in their communities, emphasizing the urgency of the gospel mission.
Guest speaker Pastor Mwendabai Mwendabai highlighted the centrality of Christ in evangelism, urging participants to understand the redemptive message of Jesus—from creation, through His lineage, to the sacrifice on the cross.
In another session, Pastor Moonga Muzunga encouraged attendees to abide in Christ, stressing that effective evangelism flows from a deep personal relationship with Him.
Additionally, Pastor Godfrey Miyanda presented on digital evangelism, emphasizing the strategic use of technology and online platforms to extend the reach of the gospel in today’s context.
The convention continues to shape and mobilize lay members as frontline workers in advancing the gospel across Rusangu Conference.

Rusangu Conference Music Seminar Opens at Rusangu Chapel with Call to Uplift Christ

By Collins Mumba

The Rusangu Conference Music Department opened its annual seminar at Rusangu Chapel on 30 April, urging musicians and church leaders to renew their commitment to worship and servant leadership.

In his opening address, Conference Executive Secretary Pastor Prince Ng'andu called on musicians to recognise and appreciate the church organisation that supports their ministry, stressing that music must always point people to Christ. He encouraged delegates to use their gifts to deepen congregational worship and to strengthen the church’s mission.

Pastor Ng'andu also warned leaders to be wary of leadership blind spots, urging them to identify and address weaknesses that could undermine effective succession and long‑term ministry health. He emphasised the importance of accountability, mentorship, and intentional leadership development as essential for sustaining vibrant church music ministries.

Parricipants welcomed the strong turnout. Conference Music Chairperson Elder Chisonga of Kaonga SDA Church thanked delegates for attending in large numbers, saying their presence demonstrates a shared commitment to raising the standard of church music and fostering unity among music ministers.

Renowned speakers at the seminar include Conference President Pastor Gladwin Mang’watu and Southern Zambia Union Director in Charge of Music Pastor Kayombo, among others. Over the four days, the programme features workshops, worship sessions, and leadership seminars designed to equip musicians with practical skills and spiritual formation.

The Rusangu Conference Music Seminar runs from 30 April to 3 May 2026 at Rusangu Chapel and has drawn more than 400 delegates from across the region. Organisers say the event aims to foster unity among music ministers and to raise the standard of church music through training, collaboration, and renewed spiritual focus.

PRESIDENT KAUNDA INTERVENED FOR YUKA ADVENTIST MISSION HOSPITAL NOT TO CLOSE AND INCREASED GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

In 1986, the Board and Management of Yuka mission took an action to close the hospital, citing financial challenges. This decision by the church was not accepted by the government, which urged the church to find lasting solutions. President of Zambia Dr. Kenneth Kaunda sent Nalumino Mundia, a minister in the government, to inform the hospital that it would not close. Instead, government support increased for the hospital.

Pastor Diamond Chibwe Lufungulo (1924–1994) the executive secretary of the Zambia Union Mission then, also served on the Yuka Adventist Hospital Commission that resolved to continue operating the hospital in Kalabo after the intervention of Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

OVER 204,000 SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST MEMBERS REPORTED MISSING IN LOCAL CHURCH’S REGISTERS FOR 2025

The latest 2026 annual statistics released by the Office of Archives, Statistics, and Research at the General Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventists have revealed that 204,222 members have reportedly gone missing in 2025, a significant increase from 181,663 in 2024.

The statistics compiled as part of the 2026 Annual Statistical Report show a 22,559 rise in the number of missing members. The report provides detailed figures from 13 Divisions and the territories attached to the General Conference, showing a clear picture of where membership loss is most pronounced.

The South American Division has seen the largest increase in missing members, with figures climbing from 83,320 in 2024 to 100,710 in 2025, representing an increase of 17,390 members going missing in the church register.

Similarly, the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) experienced a rise from 20,710 missing members in 2024 to 32,953 in 2025. The Southern Asia-Pacific Division also reported an increase, with missing members growing from 2,696 to 6,276 in 2025.

The East-Central Africa Division, in contrast, reported a decrease in missing members, falling from 11,624 in 2024 to 7,449 in 2025, which could indicate improvements in membership tracking, robust nurturing efforts,or other demographic factors.

The 2026 report shows that while some regions have seen reductions in missing members, the overall global increase raises concerns over retention and the effectiveness of member nurturing initiatives.

It is important for all church members to consider implementing new strategies alongside traditional methods in order to improve member retention. With digital tools at our disposal, these should be efficiently utilised to enhance constant engagement and communication among our members. May the merciful Lord bless our efforts and influence. May He bless our church.
