Reckless Devotion | Don’t Spectate
Day 269

We are all human. As humans, it is natural for us to watch other people and be interested in their journey and their walk with God. It is good to walk alongside others, to stand with them and be accountable to them and aim to encourage them.

However, we need to be careful that we do not focus so much on what God is doing and saying to those around us that we forget to ask Him for fresh words for ourselves.

I don’t want to spend any of the rest of my life spectating or standing around watching God at work in other ministries. I love that He does that. I praise Him for all He is doing across the world, but I do not let it distract me from my own mission in Him.

It is easy to get discouraged when we see how God blesses others. We could be in a meeting and see someone get radically healed and restored. Maybe someone else is given a fresh anointing for ministry, but we haven’t felt a touch from God like that in a long time.

Should we get depressed about that? Of course not.

But sometimes we do.

If you are feeling a sense today that you need something fresh from God’s table, just for you, don’t wait until your prayer meeting or your church group. Don’t call your pastor or your friend. Just sit in His presence today and ask Him for the ability to hear what He hears and see what He is looking at and working on in your life.

The more responsibility, influence and authority we have in our lives the deeper our foundation of accountability needs to be. Not primarily because spiritual mothers and fathers keep us from failing, but because they inspire us to reach for the high call of God that rests on each of our lives. Accountability is awesome if it is account-for-your-ability and not account-for-your-disability. Perhaps as you read this, the idea that someone has authority over you in God feels painful at best and impossible at worst. I know those feelings well, having grown up with two stepfathers who abused their authority in my life. But the benefits of having true spiritual leadership in our lives far outweigh the internal struggle it takes to get there. Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect leader, except for Jesus! Read more about why we all need spiritual accountability (even if you've been hurt by a leader in the past) on my latest blog: https://krisvallotton.com/why-you-need-spiritual-accountability-even-if-youve-been-hurt-by-leaders/

Our call as Christians is not to keep ourselves busy with mindless religious traditions. We have a mandate to reproduce what we see in the heavenly realm. We should live in response to the Father, only doing what we see Him doing. We cannot see His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven if we dont intimately know the King and His kingdom. Lets fall deeper in love with Jesus and follow His ways. Lets not get stuck in our familiar ways, only embracing what we know and understand. Lets embrace this beautiful mystery of our lives hidden in Christ.

Colossians 2:20‭-3:2 TPT
For you were included in the death of Christ and have died with him to the religious system and powers of this world. Don’t retreat back to being bullied by the standards and opinions of religion— for example, their strict requirements , “You can’t associate with that person!” or, “Don’t eat that!” or, “You can’t touch that!” These are the doctrines of men and corrupt customs that are worthless to help you spiritually. For though they may appear to possess the promise of wisdom in their submission to God through the deprivation of their physical bodies, it is actually nothing more than empty rules rooted in religious rituals!

Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honor, and authority! Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm.

Amazing!

It was for freedom that Christ has set us free. This verse from Galatians combined with Christ being our apostle is a great place to start this theme. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ led us from an Old Testament law-based culture to the New Testament culture of freedom. The external...
