LOVE KIDS IN NATURE AND NATURE IN KIDS?
I simply adore my daughters, and am a great fan of nature - I marvel at her beauty and diversity. To see my girls interacting with nature and exploring its bounty...that for me is a coupling of sheer delight. I will never stop encouraging my girls to go outside and play, play, play.
Blesfontein Guest Farm in Sutherland is still 'hot' news for my daughters after having visited there last August as a family. To date they still pipe up with remarks about Garfield, Wolfie and Meerkattie. The animals on the farm became their fast friends for that week we were there. It was endearing to witness.
Then, to have the honour to write about this extraordinary piece of heaven on earth! I didn't quite know how to capture its essence and heartbeat. Until, I started to see things through my daughters' eyes and their love of the animals who've found a home there. That was a done deal for me - the animals had to carry the story of the book I'd write.
And that they have, but with a thread running through the allegorical narrative that any human heart can relate to: "What is my identity? Where is my belonging? How do I anchor both?"
Because of these themes, this book is not a mere reader - it's a powerful resource to journey alongside our children in understanding these lifelong, all-important handles on life.
